The Road of Hope

Road-Sign-with-Hope-and-Sky

Though we say, “We hope in the Lord” many believers still find more security in the strength that comes from what is seen with their eyes then that which is hoped for and unseen. Money, vast armies, the roof over our head, jobs, a reliable vehicle, etc. give the appearance of great security. Hope in the Lord is a hope in what is heard in prayer or through the Word and it is unseen. The realm between the seen and the unseen is where the warfare and battle rages against hope and faith.

It is in the area where faith fills the gap between the spoken promise and the fulfillment of the promise that we find a mine field. This is the place where it is imperative to live from our spirits rather than our souls. Our spirit man knows how to navigate the land of hope and faith but our souls look for something tangible to tether itself to. If we do not live out of our spirits then we are sure to get caught in one of the traps laid for us by the accuser.

The world that our eyes can see and our ears can hear scream for our attention. This easily accessible place can allure us into following a false wisdom that is Earthly and will usher us to a dead end road. Hope is not fulfilled in this place. Hope is fulfilled on the narrow road that few dare to follow. It is found in the place that only faith will lead you to. It is not found by those looking for the easy route, it is found by those looking for truth. To walk this road you must leave behind all that is known and understood by your natural senses. It is a walk perceived by the spirit, not by man’s wisdom or understanding.

The journey to hope fulfilled may be marked by what appears to be complete foolishness and failure to the human mind. The race is won by those who remain in the hope of His unfailing love. So, HOPE!!! Even when it appears to tarry and be taking you down a road that looks as if all will be lost…again I say, “HOPE!”

This is the journey that prepares you for the greater works. It is where you learn to remain and abide in Him when all your natural senses want to run the other direction. It is time to run further down the narrow road. Now is not the time to back track and look for the easy way. Remember the easy way is merely a easy road to nowhere. We are on that road less traveled and it is taking us to an eternal reward.

Psalm 33: 16-22

16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

Hoping With You,

Kathi Pelton
