The Time for Singing Has Come

By Kathi Pelton

Last night we had the honor of being among many house of prayer leaders, one of which leads a house of prayer in Jerusalem. What a beautiful lady. At one point she picked up a bell that had a treble note on top of it and began to ring it again and again. As she rung the bell she announced,

“The time for singing has come, the time for singing has come…” (Songs 2:12)

Each time she rang the bell and spoke these words our spirits seemed to awaken to this truth. It was the announcement that winter was over and it was a time of new life, new songs and new love. I felt as though a spiritual hibernation was being broken off with each ring of the bell. I wanted to run with Him and feast with Him from the fruits of His table.

Then I remembered the in Songs of Solomon 2, just a couple verses before vs. 12 where it says,

He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love [for love waved as a protecting and comforting banner over my head when I was near him].

It is the depth of His love that our hearts long for. The bell signified the awakening of First Love once again. When we are near to Him we are covered in His love and it causes us to once again sing. When we are near to the One that our hearts love then truly the time of singing never has to come to an end. My Beloved is mine and I am His. This is both now and eternal.

Do you hear the bells ringing? Do you hear the announcement from Heaven’s courts? Our Beloved is coming soon and yet He is here now. Such a wonderful mystery. He has invited you to come and feast at His banqueting table. You will eat of the many flavors of His love. You will smell the many fragrances of His intimacy. You will experience the many expressions of His goodness.

He says, “Come! For the time of singing has come.”

(I encourage you to let yourself soak in the words from Songs of Solomon 2)
