Things Are Not As They Appear

Kathi Pelton

The morning after the US mid-term elections I woke up hearing the Spirit of the Lord speak the words,

“Things are not as they appear.”

Although He was speaking of the election outcome, I knew in my spirit that He was also speaking about many things that look one way but there is more going on than we can perceive with our eyes.

I knew that things nationally, corporately and personally should not be judged by sight but by the Spirit of the Lord and according to His faithfulness.

Then, just days later on 11/11 I was drawn to to Hebrews 11:11 that says,

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” Hebrews‬ ‭11:11

For Abraham and Sarah things were not as they appeared either. The promised of a child appeared to reached its “expiration date”. Sarah was no longer in her child-bearing years. But here is the key of faith that most people miss in this verse, “…because she judged Him faithful who had promised.”

Far too often I receive letters or hear Christians talking about how they are disappointed in God because He did not keep His promise to them or a prophetic word did not come to pass in the time frame that they expected.

I have a number of promises and prophetic words that “if I were to judge by my eyes” would appear to be past the season of possible fulfillment. BUT…I do not judge my God on what my eyes see but rather upon who I know He is! He is faithful and I will never cease to declare this or “judge/discern” Him as such. His promises are true and He is forever faithful.

November has been a month of amazing contrast. The natural (seen) world seems to be declaring defeats and destruction but the unseen world is announcing that we have entered a time of “promises fulfilled”. What report will we believe? Will we walk by faith or by sight? Will we judge God as faithful or accuse Him of not keeping His promises or fulfilling prophetic words?

One thing that I have discovered through walking in the prophetic culture for almost thirty years is that I must trust His timing and to posture my life in His faithfulness; even when my eyes see another story playing out before me. In a moment everything can turn and change.

At the time that Sarah received her long-awaited promise everything in the natural realm was narrating the story as one of failure of defeat. But God had the final word and He was the author of her promise and her story. He had a surprise ending that brought forth the promise of a son. She believed God to be faithful and she received her promise.

I see in my spirit long awaited promises that look like the nine month belly of a pregnant woman. The due date is upon these promises to come forth! It is as though I can feel the fullness of time regarding promises of old being fulfilled. Your natural surroundings may be shouting a different outcome and story but the One who is faithful is bringing forth Hebrew 11 promises that seem past the time of possibility.

Posture your life and your faith in the place that declares Him faithful and true. Your story is not finished and He has the final word. Take hope and strengthen your soul in the truth of His faithfulness.

John 11:11 also speaks of a different outcome than the eyes can see and a far more dramatic one,

“After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.”” John‬ ‭11:11‬

Just as God awakened Lazarus from the dead so He will awaken dead promises and dreams that you have buried. They will come forth and live! He is faithful!
