Trampling Serpents

Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. Luke 10:19

God has given us both power and authority!  We know that God has power and authority but I think that we often forget that He has given us power and authority OVER the power of the enemy.  I think that far too often we just accept hardships and trials and say that it is God bringing them to mold and make our character.  Although I do believe that God uses everything for our good, I do not believe that God is the one who brings calamity into our lives.

The enemy is always looking for the most vulnerable place in our lives and then he moves in to attack the weakest point.  We need to allow God to strengthen us in our areas of weakness but we also need to begin to operate in the power and authority that He has given to us as His sons and daughters to deal with the power of the enemy that he releases to hurt us.  I am not convinced that some of the “hurt” that I have endured has been because I have forgotten that God has given me authority over these things.

Do you ever find yourself cowering in a corner as you try to escape the onslaught of the enemy’s power that has hit your life?  I know that I have done this.  Do we not have a perfect Father that does not leave us forsaken?  YES WE DO!!!  We are not orphans and we are not without the power and authority to deal with the unjust attacks of the enemy.  We can trample on the serpent that has come to squeeze the life out of us.  We are the heirs of a king…the King of Kings!  As heirs (legitimate sons and daughters) we have the legal right to access all that belongs to Him.  We have a “signet ring” of authority upon our finger to legally have power and authority  OVER the power of the enemy.

Is the enemy operating in his power over your life in ways that are avoidable?  God does not lie and His written Word in Luke 10:19 is your legal proof that you can stop the power of the enemy from touching your life and your family.  Just a day ago I took that authority to prayer over a situation that was harassing one of our sons.  Within 24 hours he had a miraculous and amazing breakthrough that settled the issue that was plaguing him.  As you begin to operate in your God given authority, just make sure that you heed the verse that follows Luke 10:19;

But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven. Luke 10:20

We do not rejoice in the fact that the spirits of evil obey us…but that we are sons and daughters of the King.  We have His name and rejoice daily the knowledge that we are His.
