In almost every business transaction we make we are asked to give proof of identification. It shows our picture (and not usually the best picture!), our name, address, birthday, weight, height, eye color, hair color, etc. It’s more like proof of our existence. The details can change from month to month and our outward person can change.
But there is a “proof of identification” that is required when we go to pray. It is the blood of Christ that has been applied to our life and our new citizenship that is written in that blood. Both angels and demons can see it, the spirit realm recognizes it and it cannot be forged and it does not change. It is the proof that the Holy Spirit lives within us, it is the proof that we are son or daughter of the King, it is the proof of our authority in Christ, it is the proof of our royal lineage and our eternal security.
The interesting thing is that no matter how you feel on a particular day; whether you feel weak or strong, your proof of identification in the spirit does not shift or change. Your citizenship is sure, your authority as a child of the King of Kings is without question. Often we put our “feelings” upon our prayers and feel that they are only as strong as we are in our flesh. But our authority and our citizenship was sealed by Grace. Grace will be the wings that give flight to the prayers that you pray in times of weakness. The wings of grace carry your prayers straight to the heart of your Father who is strength in times of weakness.
I’ve been sick this past week. I am not complaining as I know that many of you deal with chronic pain or ongoing illness. But it was a “wake-up” call for me regarding how I pray. I found myself praying from a place of weariness which felt like I wasn’t praying with authority. Then the Spirit reminded me of where my authority comes from. It doesn’t come from my strength, it comes from His strength. It doesn’t come from my great accomplishments during the week, it’s comes from grace that is truly unmerited favor.
If you are feeling weak today…go ahead and pray…pray big prayers right there in the midst of your weakness. Your prayers are being given wings of grace that carry them right to the Throne of Grace.
2 Corinthians 12:9-11
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Now, go have a beautiful day of grace.
