In Judges 6 we read how the Israelites were living in constant fear. They were hiding in the clefts of the mountains while the Midianites robbed them of their livestock, their crops and their peace. The promises made to them when their father’s were delivered from Egypt seemed to have been lost. Fear had become their way of life.
Is this you? Does fear and loss seem to be the theme of your life? The Israelites had begun to worship at the altar of Baal. Baal was the fertility god who was believed to produce crops and enable women to bare children. Although we say that we would never worship other gods, many still put their trust in jobs, in investments, in economic security and in their own strength to provide. God asks us to tear down every “master or lord” that takes the place of trusting in the one and only Lord, Jesus Christ. He is the One who gives us everything that we need and the One who prospers us.
Fear and misplaced trust kept the Israelites from living in peace and prosperity. When God delivered them through Gideon’s obedience, Gideon built an altar and named it, “The Lord is Peace”.
Today is the day to tear down every place that you trust in other gods. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any place that your trust has been in things other than Him. Let Him lead you through repentance and then allow your life to be an altar called, “The Lord is Peace” for all to see. (Read Judges 6)
So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace.
