That blessed night the angels announced to simple shepherds that “a child has been born”. Then a great company of heavenly hosts appeared with the angels declaring,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
For those whom His favor rests, peace also is present. Who does His favor rest upon?
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11
His favor rests upon those who walk uprightly. Not only favor but honor and peace. NO GOOD THING DOES HE WITHHOLD! This is His promise and His Word.
Often we lose peace because we lose sight of the truth of His promise. Many are tempted to align with the lie that God withholds good things (as well as favor and honor). He does not lie and as we enter into the peace that His promises are true and sure then we begin to walk uprightly. It is right to believe! It is right to walk in the assurance of faith and it is right to rejoice because our Messiah came to bring peace on Earth.
The angels once again are announcing peace to men on earth! The Heavenly host joins in the song that declares His glory and the faithfulness of God that never changes, never shifts and never ceases.
He is the Father of Lights! James 1:17 says,
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
Tonight is not only the time where gifts are given and placed under the tree but it is also the first night of Hanukkah. Hanukkah is the eight day Jewish celebration of when the lamps in the newly restored temple burned for eight nights when they only had enough oil for one night. The celebration of the miracle of light will happen as we celebrate the night that the Light of the world was born. As both Christian families and Jewish families celebrate the gift of light I believe that the Father of Lights is releasing both good and perfect gifts. The gift of peace is one of those gifts.
May your Christmas be filled with peace. May your family experience favor, honor and ever good and perfect gift. Merry Christmas.
