In a world that continually surrounds mankind with circumstances and trials that can make even the strongest person cry out for help; we have not only been given the promise of God’s continuous presence with us but we are also surrounded with Heavenly help.
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” -Psalm 91:11-12
We are not alone nor without help. Our lives are surrounded by His angels who guard us from harm. There is nothing that we have faced or will ever face apart from Heavenly help. We can be brave in the face of any Earthly circumstance knowing that God is not only with us but He has commanded angelic help to surround our lives.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” -Deuteronomy 31:6
Although we do not worship angels, we surely give praise and thanksgiving to the One who commands the angels to assist us in our journeys.
“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” -Exodus 23:20
God sends angels to prepare they way, guard us along the way and to assure that we arrive in the right place that God has prepared! This has been such a truth “lived out” in my life. As our family has obeyed the instructions and voice of the Lord, step by step, we have been amazed at how things have been prepared for us even before we took the step of faith.
More often than not the Lord has prepared a greater blessing than we could have imagined as we go forward in faith.
As an example, when our family moved outside of our country to be the directors of a house of prayer, we had no idea where we’d live or how God would provide. All we knew was that He was calling us to go and to trust Him. Through a series of events we not only received a home for our family to live in but a local physician gave us an incredible six bedroom home that overlooked a lake to live in for a rent that was exceptionally low. Then God provided for it to be furnished with new furniture. I truly believe that God commanded angels to go ahead of us to prepare the way.
As God’s people we can confidently go forward in the path He is calling us to walk down; knowing that He is not only with us but has send His angels before us to prepare the way. Do not let fear hold you back or keep you from obeying His voice. He will surprise you with His goodness all along the way.
I want to share another couple of instances where angels assisted us. I truly believe that angels love to hear the testimonies of the times that they assisted God’s people and that these testimonies result in greater activity in the lives of those listening.
When my husband and I were newly married we moved across the country to attend a Christian college. It was our first big step of faith since we only had enough money for the move and for the first tuition payment (we didn’t even have jobs secured). When we arrived at our new apartment we didn’t realize that the electricity wouldn’t be on and that we needed a deposit to get it turned on. That evening there was a church service at the college. During the service I was feeling quite vulnerable due to all of the change and this financial need for the deposit. As I stood there in the midst of hundreds of worshippers I noticed a white haired man wearing a trench coat walking down the isle. He stood out to me because it was extremely hot and humid outside and he was wearing a coat. Then he walked straight up to me and said,
“I was sent to give this to you.”
He handed me a handful of cash and then turned and walked back down the isle and out of the building. The walls were all glass windows and as I watched him leave he suddenly was no where to be seen. When I counted the money in my hand it was the exact amount needed for the deposit to turn on our electricity.
Another time we were sending our daughter to fly back to the United States to visit her grandparents. We prearranged her to be assisted by the airline to help her get to each connection. On her way home she arrived in a large international airport to catch her final connection but the airline forgot to assist her. She wandered through this airport with no idea what to do or where to go (this was before the days of kids having cell phones). Finally, she sat down in the middle of the terminal feeling confused and alone. At that moment a tall blonde woman in a white pantsuit approached her and asked her if she was going to the city that we lived in. She said, “Yes I am.”
Then this woman told her that she was there to take her home. She walked our daughter to the train that would take her to the right terminal, then to the right gate and she even sat next to her on the airplane (it was not a full flight). This woman never showed a ticket at the gate and never was served a beverage when our daughter was served. She talked to her during the flight and kept her company. When the flight landed and our daughter disembarked she turned to introduce us to this woman and she was not there. We had watched everyone who had gotten off of the plane but no one with a white pantsuit had gone by. We know that an angel assisted her.
“Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”
-Hebrews 1:14
There are angels with us to guard us and to guard our children as they journey through this life (and through airports). As we come into this “back to school” time, know that as you leave your child that they are not alone. Not only is God with them but they have angels watching over them to guard them in every step.
Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my Heavenly Father.” -Matthew 18:10
Go out today in confidence and joy knowing that your good Father has commanded His angels to guard you, minister to you and go ahead of you. Watch for angelic encounters and invisible help as you walk through your day.
