Yesterday my husband (Jeff) and I experienced the death of yet another friend to an inoperable brain tumor. Following hearing this news we were driving to a worship event and I noticed that Jeff didn’t quite seem to be himself. He said that our friend’s passing was really heavy upon his heart. Then he said that he was just tired…tired of not seeing the healing that he’s believing for.
In that moment I heard the the enemy shout the words,
“Where is your God?”
As I shared what I heard, Jeff said that as I spoke out the words, “Where is your God?”, his entire being jolted and his spirit was shifted from being weighed down to the sudden awareness of the source of the heaviness and weariness that he was carrying. It lifted immediately as the understanding of the attack came forth.
Immediately we began to pray. We declared,
“Our God is here and He will show Himself faithful!”
Then I remembered when Elijah was taken up by the chariot leaving Elisha in distress. Elisha was separated from this man who was a father to him and he shouted similar words,
“Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across.”
2 Kings 2:13-14
The enemy shouts these words in accusation but Elisha shouted them out as a cry for help. As he did the river parted and the “spirit of Elijah” or mantel rested upon him and was recognized by the prophets. From that point on miracles followed him.
We can cry out,
“Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?”
God is taking the very words of the enemy (that come with accusation), who shouts “Where is your God?” and as His people cry out “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” in their distress, He will part the waters before you and the spirit of Elijah will fall upon the Church causing miracles to follow.
I have known for months now that we are on the cusp of seeing miracles, like those that we read of in the Bible, begin to fall upon God’s people with signs and wonders that will display the love, power and wonders of our God. I have also been hearing that we are in a 10:10 time (John 10:10). The Spirit defined this 10:10 time as a double portion of restoration for all that the thief has killed, stolen or destroyed.
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
John 10:10
Elisha walked with a double portion of what Elijah had walked in. As we pick up the cloak of what was lost and cry out to the God of Elijah there is a parting of the river and a double portion that will come upon God’s people.
The very accusation and question of the enemy will be answered with the parting of the waters that stand in your way and miracles on an unprecedented level to follow.
In a time that accusations are being shouted in the streets of our nation we will see God arise. It is time to turn the table on the enemy and His shouts. Our God is here and He will show His power before the powers and principalities that have risen. Hate has risen to accuse and scream, “Where is your God?” Love will answer and display the beauty, power and mercy of our God. Hate creates chaos and love restores peace.
I hear the lyrics to the Christmas song by Casting Crowns, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”,
“And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men
But the bells are ringing (peace on earth)
Like a choir singing (peace on earth)
Does anybody hear them? (peace on earth)
Peace on earth, good will to men.”
This is our double portion time! It is a time to pick up what is left from what was lost and strike the impossible with it (like Elisha did with Elijah’s cloak). Miracles will come up out of the ashes of loss and despair. New mantels, new assignments and the double portion will come.
Rise up from the heaviness and call to the Lord, the God of Elijah. Take what is left and strike the river that lies before you and watch it part! Our God is here and He will show Himself strong.
