God Is Giving You A Bridge Over Your Troubled Waters

Kathi Pelton

Yesterday, I found myself asking my 15-year old niece if she had ever heard of the Simon and Garfunkel song “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”? We were about to cross over the Bay Bridge in Northern California which looks upon the Golden Gate Bridge. Then, this morning on my Facebook memories this word about “A Bridge Over Troubled Waters” (from a number of years ago) came up. I do not believe it is a coincidence but rather the Spirit highlighting a word that God is repeating. Here it is…

Jesus Is Becoming Your Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Kathi Pelton

Whenever I wake up with a song in my head I pay attention because often the Lord is speaking to me through it. This morning I woke up hearing the old Simon and Garfunkel song, “Bridge Over Trouble Waters”.

I asked the Lord what He was wanting to say to His people and immediately saw a vision of Jesus standing at the shore of very turbulent waters. Many people were there with Him. He had what looked like a rolled up carpet runner in His hands. He then laid down across the troubled waters and this red carpet was rolled it out upon his back. He became a bridge with a red carpet upon it.

I then saw Him invite those who have been troubled and facing great turbulence to walk across this bridge. It was an invitation that required renewed faith because the waters beneath him still raged but Jesus was their safe bridge to lead them over. When they arrived on the other side it was as if they went from a long, dark winter scene to a bright summers day.

If you have felt blocked by or trapped in “troubled waters”, do not despair! Jesus is with you and he is present to roll out the red carpet for you to cross over upon.

The song lyrics say this,

“Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down”

The Lord is laying himself down for you. He did this for you on the cross and he is still your bridge today.

You have not been forgotten or abandoned— he is always with you but you need to step out in faith and trust in him to cross over. Like the children of Israel before the Red Sea— you must ready yourself to cross over. Trust in Jesus and rise up. Shake off unbelief, shake off slavery, shake off despair and gird yourself up in faith and the power of his mighty Spirit.

Another line from this song says,

“…Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine…”

Your crossing over time will bring you favor and light— and life. Many dreams that you’ve dreamed will come your way— but remember the faith that you began with and walk in it again. In my spirit I saw many who had become like a lame man, crippled by the unbelief that came as a result of the turbulence and troubles. But then I heard the Lord say, “Pick up your mat and walk!”

There is a response when He makes a way— you must leave where you have been and walk forward. You must hear his voice and respond. The victim must rise up as a victor and the lame must rise into their healing. The troubled waters came to build perseverance in you— endurance in you— and strengthen you to offer sacrifices of praise in the midst of storms. They did not come to cripple you with doubt and unbelief. So take up your mat of defeat and walk into your victory.

He is with you. He is with you to comfort you regarding all that you’ve gone through. He is your closest friend and wants you to embrace that intimate connection as you cross into a place where promises are fulfilled and dreams become realities. He wants to share these things with you. Future winds will come but they will come to propel you forward as you put your full trust in him— so, be sure to put up the sails of faith and know that your time in troubled waters was to prepare you to move forward by catching the wind of his Spirit.

The sunrise is upon you to bring you into a new day— a time that shines with light, life and hopes fulfilled. Jesus is your bridge and he is calling to you to cross over on the red carpet of the blood he shed for your freedom.

  1. Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
