More Than Conquerors!

By Kathi Pelton

Romans 8:31-39 tells us that as God’s people, we are not defeated or conquered by the wiles of the enemy and his evil schemes but we are most assuredly more than conquerors. More than! With Christ we have been given eternal victory and will stand in that victory with Him over every power and principality at the end of the age.

When Jesus went to the cross He became the only pure and spotless sacrifice for our sins that could grace us with eternal salvation but His death and resurrection also was the triumph over every power and principality.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15

Every believer is faced with a very real battle— not against flesh and blood as many suppose but against powers and principalities that desire to keep mankind from the love and salvation of Christ. There is a fierce battle against believers that desires to have them turn away from the Love that was crucified for them and to cause them to believe that they actually have been overcome and conquered— do not give into this lie. You are a conqueror through Christ Jesus.

So how do we live in the strength, power and might of Jesus? How do we live as conquerors? We cannot do it in our own strength— this fact is clear. It is only through the appropriation and application of what Jesus did through His death and resurrection. We cannot appropriate or apply our human strength or good works for they stand as nothing apart from the finished work of the cross. We battle not with the weapons of our flesh but with the power and might that we appropriate by faith in Christ alone and we apply it by living in the truth of our faith in Jesus Christ.

We will face trials that test our faith but we can come out of each trial as MORE than conquerors. As we remain in faith and do not waver, we come out of every trial as a victor. It is not a formula or a passive decree that makes us conquerors but by applying the truth and grace of Christ Jesus to our lives each and every day. The enemy knows who Jesus is and what He has done— he even knows the Word and that he is a defeated foe. His cloaked in a zeal that is insatiable regarding stealing and destroying mankind. But it is no match for the “cloak of zeal” that is upon the Lord (Isaiah 59:17). We must appropriate and apply all that He has done and who He is to our lives, our actions, and our hearts. Remember, faith without action leave us susceptible to harm and the fiery darts of the evil one.

This is why we have the armor of God. The armor is the application of the fullness of God in and upon our lives. We must actively apply and live in all of its benefits. Faith, salvation, truth, righteousness, the Word of God, and peace. A warrior does not put on all of his armor and then hide or sit passively while a war is waged against him. As believers we are to wear God’s armor and move forward as those who have inherited the title of “More Than Conquerors.” We go forth in His victory and apply it everywhere we go and in every trial that we face.

It is time for the body of Christ to clothe themselves with the strength, power and might of the Lord and stand up in faith as those who have been called, “More than conquerors!” The greatest assault from the enemy that I see aimed at God’s people is the lie that they have been conquered and defeated. It is time to shake off that lie and to take up all that we have been given to overcome and conquer— Christ did it all and now it has been given to us to appropriate and apply to our lives by the help of His Spirit.

This is our inheritance, our right, our responsibility and our authority. The enemy is a bully and a fraud so stand up and be the conqueror that Jesus paid for you to be! I pray with Paul that you will receive this…

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
