41 Years Ago Today I Surrendered My Life To Jesus!
God had been pursuing me with such love and kindness the four years prior (age 14-18) and I wanted to walk with Him and surrender my life but didn’t believe that I could keep that commitment. I wanted to have Him just pick me up and carry me.
I had secretly been listening to Keith Green music off and on for a couple of years and the only prayer I knew to pray was,
“God, I want what Keith Green has.”
Then, at age 18, immediately after a devastating night— I was driving in my car (July 28th, 1982) and on my car radio I heard the announcer say,
“Gospel singer, Keith Green, along with two of his young children, were killed today in a small plane accident in Texas.”
I began to weep uncontrollably. Then, right then and there— in my car— with no altar, no minister, with no one but God, I surrendered my life to Jesus. My first prayer was that He would carry me and help me to keep my commitment to Him. And that I’d know Him like Keith Green had known Him.
There is no way that I can describe how God amazingly picked me up, put me over His shoulders and carried me by His grace in the following days, months and years. He truly did! It was a miraculous journey of being carried over His shoulders.
He picked me up, put me over His shoulders and carried me— not just for a day but until I was strong enough to walk with Him.
After my commitment to Jesus— the first thing that happened was that I was gifted Keith Green’s last album. I was overwhelmed to see that the photo on the cover was of Keith carrying a lamb on his shoulders! Oh, His faithfulness and kindness was overwhelming.
If you wonder if God can carry you— let me assure you that He can and He will. What a beautiful journey and life He has given me as He has been faithful to help me to keep my commitment to Him.
