By Kathi Pelton
Last night I had a dream and in the dream I had to find three things that were hidden from me— and then, once I found them I had to uncover what they were (I needed to dig deep, search and seek to discover their hidden treasures).
The dream never led me to the conclusion of where to find them or what they were but I woke up knowing that the Lord wanted me to seek them out, find them and then uncover their true value.
But, I thought I should first look in His Word as the map to these hidden treasures.
So I did.
The first point on my Biblical map was found in Proverbs 2,
“Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.” Proverbs 2:3-8 NLT
Wow, that is packed with value and treasures to be discovered! Dig deep (search & seek) for insight, understanding, the meaning of the fear of the Lord, knowledge, common sense (Oh how many need this today!), honesty, integrity, justice, protection and faithfulness!
This verse is truly a treasure chest filled with insight that I need but also that the Church needs. As we watch idols topple and many things that people have treasured, now proven to be fools gold, this verse is filled with so much pure gold. I am so excited to search through this treasure chest of hidden gems so that I may be rich with understanding. Yet this is only the first treasure chest.
Let’s go back to the treasure map of his Word. The next point on the map is found in Matthew 13.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matthew 13:44
BUY THE FIELD!
The field contains the kingdom of heaven and it’s worth is more than anything that we are hanging onto. I believe that there is a message within this verse that says, “Stop hanging on so tight to that which has not brought you true and lasting joy (that which is temporary) and sell it all to buy the field!”
I have the strongest sense that there is an ownership regarding the kingdom of heaven that we have not fully established. It is like we are renters or visitors but God called us to be heirs of the kingdom of heaven— legal citizens, and owners. Not only us but our children are to be heirs of what our lives have obtained. But we have to sell everything to buy this field.
God is searching hearts to find the places that we’ve held back, we’ve found false securities in, we’ve have not yet surrendered (sold) to buy the field and gain the treasure. It is time to surrender all.
This “point on the treasure map” also goes along with Matthew 6:19-21,
““Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Matthew 6:19-21
Finally, the treasure map of his Word led me to the third point found in Isaiah 45:2-3,
“This is what the Lord says: “I will go before you, Cyrus, and level the mountains. I will smash down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness— secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.” Isaiah 45:2-3
What an amazing verse to search out in the time that we are living in! Insurmountable mountains seem to loom before us— blocking the way forward. Gates of bronze and bars of iron make us feel like we’ve been placed in a fortified fortress of evil that we cannot find our way out of. Yet in this verse we are promised that the Lord will level the mountains and smash the gates and bars that confine us.
But— not only that! It says that he will give us treasures “hidden in darkness!” SECRET RICHES! And when he does this we will know that he is the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls us by name.
As we are in a very dark time— I feel that we are about to see the sovereignty of God revealed that levels mountains, smashed gates (systems) that hold many captive and we discover the treasures hidden in darkness causing every doubt to cease regarding who he is!
MAYBE IT IS DISCOVERING HIS ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGNTY!
The understanding (treasure) that he is our deliverer, our defender, our waymaker, and our victory when we are so surrounded by darkness that we are helpless to do anything but trust him.
These three things— these three points on the treasure map will be where I search, seek, dig and “sell all to buy this field” in the coming days and years.
Join me on this treasure hunt!
