Have you ever seen someone poking another person in the chest to attempt to provoke a reaction? Or maybe you’ve had this done to you. The enemy of our soul loves to poke at God’s people to try to get a negative reaction— then he immediately turns to that person and accuses them for the very reaction that he provoked.
Well— I have decided that when the enemy does this, that he is doing me a favor! Why? Because if there is something under the surface of my life that can be provoked to a sinful or negative reaction then I need that to be exposed and I need to repented of it.
The enemy pokes because he’s aware that there are areas that “can be provoked.” We want to be a people that can say like Jesus, “The enemy of the world comes, but he has no hold over me.” (John 14:30)
If you find yourself being poked at and then provoked— thank the Lord for revealing a place that the enemy still has a hold on you. There is no shame but rather an opportunity to repent and surrender that area to Jesus.
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24
Oh, to be more like Jesus— that is my heart’s cry.
