An Invitation From Your Beloved

By Kathi Pelton

The other night I took some time to sit outside on our front porch. It was early evening and the sun was beginning to set. There was a gentle breeze and not a cloud in the sky. The birds around our house where active in song and in playful fluttering— and a dove family had just finished feeding their babies on the gateway in front of me. As I sat there, I was “caught up in creation and the love for her Creator.” I became so aware of God’s perspective of peace, beauty, breath, rest and glory. I sat there, not wanting the moment to fade or the sky to darken. Then I heard the words,

“This is how it feels to abide. Abide with Me.”

Honestly, nothing else mattered in that atmosphere— the chaos and battle throughout earth was swallowed up by the glory and majesty that I was experiencing. I became a part of the unity of creation and Creator. He was in awe and I was in awe. I was hidden in His glory.

I suddenly became aware that this place is always available to us spiritually. Although it cannot be the cool of the evening every hour of every day, there is a place in the Spirit where we can enter into the intimacy and oneness that we (His created) and Him (our Creator) share and linger together. It is the green pastures and still waters where we walk hand in hand with our Bridegroom. It is a realm of safety, peace, glory and awe that refreshes us and renews us. It is where we get the oil for our lamps and light for the path ahead. We are filled with the oil of His love in this place and go forth separated from darkness and shame.

He is inviting us to come and walk with Him in the cool of the evening— even amid the heat of the day or of the battle. This place will provide a shield around us and a shelter over us from every storm. The atmosphere in this place is the atmosphere of heaven— it is our Eden that sin has not touched or tainted. It is where we walk with God and are fully revealed and unashamed.

This is where we find first love once again. This is where we are overcome with love— to the point that we will go wherever he calls us to go. This is where we remember who He is and who we are. And— this is where the oil flows to keep our lamps shining brightly and where the wine of His love intoxicates us with unspeakable joy.

He is inviting you to take time to walk with him and sit with him as the atmosphere of heaven restores your soul and fills your lamp with oil.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

My lover said to me,
“Rise up, my darling (my dove)!
Come away with me, my fair one!
Look, the winter is past,
and the rains are over and gone.
The flowers are springing up,
the season of singing birdsc has come, and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air. The fig trees are forming young fruit,
and the fragrant grapevines are blossoming. Rise up, my darling!
Come away with me, my fair one!”

Songs 2:10-13

He invites you to “Come.”
