In the book of 1 Samual 30, we read about how David strengthens himself in the Lord. This “strengthening” does not mean that he pulls on his human strength, human power, personal gifts or even earthly authority. It means that he encourages himself to find strength in the faithfulness and trust of Yahweh.
“David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6
God is calling to his people to let go of the strength that comes from self because it is very limited and will leave you striving, weakened and lacking. Life will try to teach you the “art” of self protection, controlling people and circumstances, putting on fronts that protect us from vulnerability and reacting to perceived fears (even before they happen). God calls us to take all of the fears that weaken us and replace them with being “strengthened by Yahweh.”
Even in the most desperate of situations and difficult circumstances we can take every fear, all human weakness and our vulnerability to the place of being strengthened by God’s faithfulness.
Encourage your soul in the strength of Yahweh! As you put your trust and hope in his strength, his sovereignty and his faithfulness (not in our own or the hope of any man) you will find strength that is supernatural— you will even find joy amid obstacles that would have normally caused you to be downtrodden. Circumstances that would normally caused you to become weak in your knees and cause your heart tremble will be replaced by a divine strength that ushers you into his victory. All of your hope is in him alone and he is faithful to do all that he has spoken.
Be strong and courageous— no matter what is before you. This is how leaders are made and how sons and daughters are formed into leaders that can be trusted and followed. As you allow the Spirit of the Lord to teach you how to submit your soul to the encouragement and strength of Yahweh you will find that you can scale a wall or win battles that appeared hopeless.
This is how we fight our battles. Our strength is in Christ alone!
