Update On Kathi Pelton: Another Surgery

Health Update

If you have been following Kathi on social media, then you are already aware of the ongoing health situation she has been facing throughout the month of May.

It began the last days of April with a fever, nausea, abdominal pain and dehydration that landed her in the emergency room. They gave her IV fluids and an IV antibiotic but wrongly diagnosed her with a UTI (urinary tract infection) and released her with an antibiotic.

Within a few days she was worse, her pain was worsening each day. She went to urgent care where the doctor recognized her symptoms as being kidney related. She ordered scans which confirmed two large (impassable) kidney in both kidneys and one kidney was blocked and infected. They gave her more antibiotics and pain medication and scheduled her to have stents put into both kidneys that Friday.

Following her stent operation, Kathi was in unbearable and constant pain that the doctors were not able to manage. For five days she suffered day and night. The following Friday they brought her back into the operating room to remove the stents, to remove the kidney stones in both kidneys and to put in new bilateral stents.

Once again the pain was almost unbearable as she dealt with fragments of the stones being passed, new stents and a catheter that was causing spasms and irritation to her bladder.

This past Friday she had the procedure to remove the catheter and remove the bilateral stents. During the procedure the doctor could not find the stent on the right side. After three unsuccessful attempts to find it they decided to do x-rays to locate it. The x-rays showed that the stent has moved up high into her right kidneyโ€” too far for the doctors to be able to get it through the normal procedure. The physicians were all very concerned because this is a very rare occurrence. Unfortunately, the only way to retrieve it is to have it surgically removed.

This coming week, Kathi will be in the operating room for the third time in the month of May. She is exhausted and her body has been through a lot. It will probably take a month or more to recover after all that has happened.

Please be praying for her during this next week as she faces another round of surgery and recovery. And be praying for us as this has obviously disrupted all of our plans, schedules, and commitments. Our adult children have been so supportive as have our dear friends and church community in praying for us and offering help.

We want to thank our subscribers and ministry followers for your notes, written prayers and cards. You are so kind. At this time we continue to ask for prayers but would also ask if you would prayerfully consider sending a gift of financial support? Both are needed and appreciated at this time in our lives.

Thank you from the depths of our heartsโ€” we truly are blessed to be surrounded by so much love. Below are the ways that you can send support or cards to encourage Kathi.
