Kathi Pelton
Some of you are facing loss. Some of you are facing lack. Some of you are facing loneliness. Some of you are facing disease. And some of you are suffering from some other situation that needs God’s attention.
Psalm 136 is a psalm that recounts time after time where God was needed to bring miraculous intervention— and he did. After each recitation of his wondrous intervention, David writes these words,
“…for his steadfast love endures forever.”
Over the past month I’ve been focusing my heart and my reading on this very thing; his steadfast love. The Hebrew word for this is “chesed” and it appears nearly 250 times in the Old Testament alone— it is also known as lovingkindness or mercy.
Steadfast love speaks of God’s unwavering, loyal, and immovable love— a faithful and covenantal love (bound in covenant). This is the love, the agape love, that surrounds each of us all the days of our lives and throughout eternity. It is unbreakable, unconditional and foundational.
Whatever you are facing; loss, lack, loneliness, disease or disappointment— whatever it is…you are not facing it alone. His steadfast love and mercy is wrapped around you. It is also wrapped around anything and everything that you are facing.
“to him who alone does great wonders…”
“to him who divided the Red Sea…”
“to him who struck down great kings…”
“to him who rescued us from our foes…”
HIS STEADFAST LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!
I decree these words over you:
“To him who will comfort you and give you hope…”
“To him who will provide for your needs and deliver you from lacking any good thing…”
“To him who will set the lonely in family…”
“To him who heals your diseases and has defeated death…”
“To him who will deliver you from every foe that you are facing…”
HIS STEADFAST LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of Lords. His steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. His steadfast love endures forever.” Psalms 136:1-4
It is good to give thanks to the Lord! Even before you witness your miracle or receive your blessing— because right now, right where you are— his faithful and steadfast love has enveloped you and has heard your cries. It’s not earned, it’s given unconditionally.
The hand of mercy is reaching into your need and working on your behalf even now. It is HIS hand, HIS strong right arm, HIS power and HIS might.
So…give thanks to him. Put your trust in him yet again. FOR HIS STEADFAST LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!
