This past week I have been pondering the subject of faith a lot. As I was thinking and journaling I was continually taken back to the foundational faith in believing that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. It is our first and foremost point of faith. It is the faith that is eternal because it is our assurance of eternal salvation.
But then I was thinking about all the times that God had spoken a clear promise to me— something that would have a miraculous outcome here in the land of the living. I’m not talking about a wish or an assumption but a true word from the Lord that, for me, is almost always confirmed by his written word and by confirming signs he leaves to secure my faith in what I’ve heard him speak.
I, like you, want to live a fully surrendered life that carries the words and posture of Jesus from Luke 22:42 (b), “…Yet not my will but yours be done.” I want my faith to reflect both belief and surrender. Yet, in those times when God speaks a clear word that has direction, instruction and outcome on it I want my faith in “who he is” (Lord and Savior— God!) to carry over into that earthly journey as well.
As I was thinking about all these layers of faith I remembered an amazing and vivid dream that I had.
In this dream I was seeking to find an insurance policy that would cover my faith. I was entering into what I’d call “a high risk” situation regarding my faith. I had heard something from the Lord that I was to do that would need supernatural help and provision. Although it was not revealed in the dream what that was, I just knew that if God didn’t come through the loss would be great. In this dream I was searching for an insurance policy in case something happened and I was left with losses. Suddenly a package arrived for me and I knew it was from the Lord. When I opened it I found that it contained a scroll or a rolled up document. As I unrolled it I saw writing on the header of this document that said, “Assurance Policy.”
It was a not an insurance policy but an assurance policy that gave me a written guarantee that my faith was being covered by His declaration of promised provision. I laid it down on a table, got out a pen and signed it. I had my assurance policy! (End of dream)
It was such an amazing dream. The dream began with me seeking “insurance”; a guaranteed compensation of loss. But instead, he gave me he gave me “assurance”; a positive declaration intended to give confidence— a promise.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
The Greek word for assurance can be translated to mean “concrete”. It is the foundation or concrete proof of something we can stand upon. Just like faith in Jesus is our assurance of salvation, faith in his written or spoken word gives us assurance that what we have not seen will surely happen.
This “Assurance Policy” was my concrete proof or promise that there will not be a need for an insurance policy that compensates for loss. I could go forth in confident hope regarding what he had spoken. What a
blessed assurance this dream is for all of us.
If he says it, he will do it— ASSUREDLY!
