Such a Good Father

I remember when my children were young they would often ask to see a movie or have a toy (or do an activity) that was not appropriate or safe for their age. With tenderness I would explain my heart to protect and love them by not agreeing to whatever the request was. As a mom I knew what was best for them.

This is even more true with our Heavenly Father. He knows your spiritual and emotional maturity and all that is in your heart and soul. There are times that you might feel frustrated about the timing of God in your life but you need to remember that He always has what is best for you in His heart. He is more concerned with protecting your heart and life than He is with appeasing restless souls. It is His love and compassion that keeps you from facing things that you are not ready to face or being exposed to situations that might bring harm to you.

This is not condemnation but compassion. His heart is not angry or demanding change but His kindness is bringing us all into growth and maturity that is real, lasting and by His Spirit.

Not everything that His people face is about maturity or readiness because it is true that we all face battles against our destinies and callings but I do believe that our good and loving Father often protects us from what we are not prepared to handle.

Deuteronomy 8 is an entire chapter that displays this truth. It talks about how God kept His people in the wilderness for 40 years to see all that was in their hearts. He sustained them and then after the time of testing, maturing and refining He moves them from the wilderness into the Promise Land (I encourage you to read the entire chapter).

I sense that many have been through a similar time of testing and maturing as the Children of Israel. This time was for the sake of being prepared to walk in blessings beyond what they could have handled outside of this preparation. Our good Father raises up His children with wisdom and love, never desiring harm to come to them but always having a future and hope for them.

Thank your Father for taking the time to prepare you and mature you to be like Him. Thank Him for His perfect ways, His timing, His wisdom and His blessing. He is good in every way toward His own!

His Spirit is doing a deep work in the hearts and lives of God’s children. Let us ALL invite His Spirit to complete the work that He has begun in us.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:3-6
