He Gives True Wisdom

Jeffrey Pelton

Wise children heed their father’s instructions.

When we were young, if we chose to not obey our parents or guardians, we could be easily misled, deceived, and manipulated. Even as adults, we are not always able to keep ourselves from being coerced and seduced by the enticing and flattering treasures of the world. If we think ourselves wise in our own eyes, we prove that we are foolish.

But fortunately, we understand from Scripture that in His kindness, our gracious God makes provision for us to understand true wisdom. He has made it available to us at all times, in many ways.

Wisdom calls aloud in the streets,

she raises her voice in public squares.

She cries out above the commotion.

At the entrances of the city gates,

she utters her speech…

Behold, I pour out my heart to you.

I will make my words known to you. (Proverbs 1:20-21,23 TLV)

The prophet Isaiah also reveals to us the heart of our gracious Lord:

I was sought by those who did not ask for Me;

I was found by those who did not seek Me.

I said, “Here I am, here I am,”

To a nation that was not called by My name.

I have stretched out My hands all day long to a

rebellious people….(Isaiah 65:1-2).

He is always faithful, even when we are unfaithful. He longs that everyone would walk in truth and the counsel of the Holy Spirit, our Comforter who has come to lead us into all truth. He reminds us of the truth today, just as the Lord spoke to Joshua the high priest,

“If you will walk in My ways,

And if you will keep My command,

then you shall also judge My house,

And likewise have charge of My courts…. (Zechariah 3:7).

God went on to tell Joshua that He was sending forth His Servant the BRANCH, the One who, according to Jeremiah 33:15, brings righteousness and justice upon the earth.

As we listen and yield to Him, trusting and following His continual instruction, we will speak and act in true wisdom as we have been taught; we will be one heart with the great shepherd who loves us and all people, who is making us one as He and the Father are one. We will do only what we see the Lord doing. We will move as He moves, and love as He loves.

Wise men still seek Him!
