Jesus Has Come to Calm Your Storm

Kathi Pelton

Matthew 14:25-33

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”

they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Often during the storms that life on Earth unleashes against us we feel that our very existence is threatened. It can feel as though everything will be lost in the midst of the unrelenting waves that pound against all that you’ve worked so hard for. But there is good news…Jesus is walking upon those waves toward you! They are under His feet.

I love that in Matthew 14 we see how Peter has so much faith in Jesus that he says, “If it is you; call me to come to you”. He knows that his Lord is the only one who can enable him to walk upon the very storm that has been pounding against their boat. But when he steps out in faith the force of the storm becomes far too real to Peter and he takes his eyes off of the One who is enabling him to walk on water and he allows fear to invade his miracle; causing him to sink.

This is a time where many have stepped out in faith during a storm and are even now sinking because the shelter of the boat that had been carrying them is now behind them, Jesus is still before them but the storm is UPON THEM!

Do you feel yourself sinking beneath the waves and darkness of the sea? Has the reality of the storm caused you to wish that you had never left the boat? If so, know that Jesus is going to reach out and grab your hand to save you!

Whether you have stepped out in faith to “walk on water” or you are still in the boat that is in the midst of a storm; know that He is with you and will save you.

Jesus is and always has been your bridge over troubled waters. The enemy may be able to stir the waters of adversity but he has no authority over the One who stills the wind and waves. Now is time to come into agreement with the reality of “Who He is” rather than “what you see”! The natural reality of the storm you are facing has no authority over the Creator of the Earth and all that is in it.

Declare now that the God above all gods, the Creator of everything, the Beginning and the End and the only Worthy One is Lord of your life and even your storm. You will be amazed how peace will come to you in the midst of this storm because you have come into agreement with the Prince of Peace.

Now is the time to shift your eyes from the wind and waves to the Prince of Peace who calms your storm and calms your fears.

“Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
