Slaves to Righteousness

Kathi Pelton

Did you know that there is a slavery that sets you free? Romans 6:19 says,

“…Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.”

We can come before our merciful Savior and surrender ourselves to Him as “slaves of righteousness”. As we do this we are giving ourselves over to the power of His holiness that sets us free from the chains of sin and death.

Today I saw the Lord inviting sons and daughters to come to Him in order to exchange their slavery to sin for slavery to righteousness. He will remove the ring of captivity off of your finger and replace it with a signet ring that bears His name. All of Heaven and Earth will recognize that you belong to the Father and that you have joined yourself to the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

This divine exchange binds you to righteousness and frees you from the power that sin has had over your life. You are joined to freedom by your free will to become slaves to righteousness. Just as a man joins himself to a woman when he chooses to enter into a marriage covenant with her (causing them to become one flesh); you can freely choose to join your lives to righteousness.

Romans 6 goes on to say,

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.” Romans‬ ‭6:22‬ ‭

Oh the freedom that comes in becoming “slaves of God”! It is not forced and it is not harsh…it is the way that we come into all of the benefits of being sons and daughters of such a loving Father. It is a decision that has everlasting benefits and the pathway to holiness. It is where we overcome by the blood of the Lamb! It is the decision to be set free.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭

The slavery to sin is a heavy yoke but slavery to righteousness is light and gives us freedom.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

There is an open invitation to come to Him to exchange the heavy yoke that has been upon you for God’s gentle yoke that gives you rest for your soul. His loving kindness is never ending and His desire for you is deep and wide.

We have been crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives (Romans 6:6). Slaves to righteousness are the ones who have been set free!
