Rejoicing and Weeping Together: This Is Family

By Kathi Pelton

This week families all over our nation gathered around tables to share in the celebration of Thanksgiving. As I viewed many pictures of families smiling together I thought of the “stories behind the smiles” that often are much different than what a social media post relays.

This past week one family that we know lost their wife and mom in a car accident. Another, spent the day remembering a child that they lost recently and still another faced pending cancer treatments. Behind our family photos we are feeling the ache as we prepare for some family members to move 3000 miles away, one child was not present and is facing homelessness, one has just fallen in love and can’t stop smiling, and one couple going through the pains of infertility. A true mix of joy and pain.

There is always incredible beauty and deep felt pain in the background of every picture, every life and every family. No one is exempt from the joy or the pain. But what makes it all worth it is that we are a part of a family. We rejoice together, we weep together and we risk experiencing pain to experience the joy and beauty.

Why did Jesus go to the cross? It wasn’t to give a “hero of the day” social media post…it was to make a way for His family to be together for all eternity. Family was the “joy set before Him” as He endured the cross. Before the creation of man and woman; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit weren’t bored or unhappy but they knew that making a family in their image would be good! When sin, pain and heartbreak touched that family they knew that no sacrifice was too great to gain them back.

This is what God is still longing for! His mission has not changed. He wants to bring back all the sons and daughters who have gone astray or who are not experiencing family. There are still members of the family missing from the picture! He rejoices with the family gathered around Him and yet there is deep pain for the ones that are missing. There are stories behind the smiles that compel Him to send His sons and daughters to leave everything to try to fulfill the longing to see His family united as one.

Our family moves many times and the majority of those moves have been to go where His heart is calling us to in order to fulfill His longing for the family in that city and nation. This is the story for many who have said, “Here I am, send me.”

God loves family!! He is the One who sets the lonely in family. If you are lonely then there is family for you! They are all across the world and waiting to receive you. Don’t sit alone…find family! Wherever we have been there has always been a family there to be a part of. Is it a perfect family! No, there is pain, brokenness, imperfections and dysfunction of some sort within every natural and spiritual family but there is love, joy and beauty to be found if you’re willing to embrace the “weeping and the rejoicing.” You can’t have one without the other.

As we enter into the holiday season, let’s remember that perfection isn’t the goal…family is. So sit with the broken and comfort them, hear the voices of the ones who feel unheard, hug the ones who feel unloved and ache with the one who is struggling to find hope. Then and only then will joy come and rejoicing come. May the story behind the smiles in pictures be one that says, “Through it all I have been well loved!” That is what makes family.

Let us love well! As we finish this year and prepare for a new year let us strive to be more present with the one standing in front of us, let’s listen more attentively, love more deeply, give more readily and “feel” more sensitively.

A social media post is merely the cover photo of a book that tells a much longer story. It’s a story of joy and pain, successes and failures, gains and losses, tragedies and triumphs. The story is what makes true family; not the picture. Our God isn’t looking for the perfect family, He’s merely wanting every person ever created to be a part of His family. Let’s see His dream come true by loving well…in weeping and rejoicing we can truly be a family.

Oil Is Being Poured Out Upon The United States of America

by Kathi Pelton

On October 28th, 1886 the Statue of Liberty was dedicated and unveiled by President Grover Cleveland in the New York harbor. Today marks 133 years since this occurred. Here are the words from Psalm 133:

“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.” Psalms‬ ‭133:1-3‬ ‭

Though most looking from the outside would say that our nation is surely not living in harmony together. But we are not those who look from “outside” but we have been brought into “insider information” through Christ. God always works through His chosen remnant and I hear Him shouting, “My remnant is so pleasant to Me! Their harmony, love, yielding and longing for purity is so pleasant to me! Their labor and oneness has captured My attention and released My oil and blessing!”

I suddenly saw His pleasure dripping like oil down the robe of “Lady Liberty.” It was renewing her strength and rebirthing (renewing) God’s original intent for our nation.

I heard the words from Isaiah 40:31

“But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

God’s remnant is establishing “trust in the Lord” that is covering the nation in the blessing that comes for the nations that says, “In God We Trust!” This is the blessing that is spoken of in Psalm 133:3,

“…And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.”

God’s remnant is and has been allowing the deep work of His Spirit to give them clean hands, a pure heart and unity that is so pleasant to the Lord. There is a standard being raised like the torch in Lady Liberty’s hand; that standard establishes the fear of the Lord that declares, “In God We Trust.”

On the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty is a verse from a sonnet by Emma Lazarus that says,

“Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I sense that even the last name of the author of this sonnet is prophetic in nature as the Lord is calling us to life; awakening the original intent for our nation to “strengthen the weary, give breath to the faint and give shelter to those without a home.” Just as He called out, “Lazarus, come forth.” He is calling out, “America, come forth.”

He is strengthening us to run and not grow weary, to run again and not faint! He is calling the orphans to find family and those without a home to be sheltered in His love.

“…I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

May we lift our lamp of the light of the Lord up and welcome the King of Glory into our nation. May we take up the cause of the poor and make our land a resting place for the Lord and all that He carries in His heart.

“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is He, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— He is the King of glory.” Psalm 24:7-10

On this day, October 28th, 2019 we declare and establish the standard of absolute trust in the Lord within our nation. We lift up a light that declares the fear of the Lord. Let unity and harmony release the oil that drips down the robe of our nation and saturates our land and people with the oil of gladness. Make us a resting place for the King of Glory.

We welcome You, King of Glory, into the gateways of our nation. We lift up our heads to welcome you. We bow down before you in honor and reverence. We call out to our nation, “Lazarus, arise, come forth!” Resurrect Your original intent for our nation and who we are to be to the nations of the world. Set Your holy standard; established it in our day!

He Makes The Darkness Tremble

by Kathi Pelton

As many of you know, I asked for prayer yesterday (and wow, I got it!). I have an amazing prayer team that covers us, our ministry and our family so I don’t normally “go public!” Yesterday I did because I knew that the name of Jesus makes the darkness tremble and that my faithful friends and followers would speak His name and each time they would that light would dispel darkness.

I don’t know if what I’ve been dealing with recently is warfare, just being worn-down or witchcraft (or all three) but I do know that, whatever the case is, His name sheds light and changes the atmosphere! Just the mention of His name makes the darkness tremble! Through His grace I can handle difficult circumstances and physical challenges (not that I invite them!) but when I can’t find the One my heart longs for it becomes time to make the darkness tremble at the mention of His name!

There has been a increased level of warfare coming at God’s people. I don’t say that to glorify the enemy or to focus on the battle but as God’s people have been arising with such beauty, unity, power and surrender they are taking back ground that has been long held by the enemy. His “kingdom” is being shaken by the unshakable Kingdom of God! A great army is arising…dry bones are coming to life! This has created a great battle in the heavens and on the earth.

As we witness tragedies like the death of Toby Mac’s young son, the suicides of well-loved and known young pastors, and the intense warfare over our leaders and president, we must remember that we have a name that we can all upon who rescues and saves. When I’m at a complete loss I will often just sit and repeat His name over and over. His name washes over me like waves of mercy that remove the fog and confusion. Within His name is every answer needed to rescue and save us from even the greatest despair.

As I read about the loss of Toby Mac’s, and his wife Amanda’s, sudden loss of their precious son, all I could do was speak the name of Jesus as a prayer over them. Jesus knows what it is like to feel the weight of the deepest grief and our Heavenly Father has also watched His Son die. He is acquainted with with our sorrows and deepest grief.

“He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.” Isaiah 53:3

Jesus took all grief, sorrow, sin and hopelessness upon Himself on the cross and purchased victory. We are no longer hopeless, even in death! We are comforted by the victory of eternal life and a grace that carries us into His resurrection. Jesus not only made the darkness tremble but He defeated death and the grave! He is always the joy set before us; there is no circumstance in which we have been left to utter hopelessness. His life and light gives us an abiding place where hope is alive.

When you feel the darkness closing in around you, declare the name of Jesus and watch the darkness tremble. When death surrounds you, Jesus brings the hope of resurrection life! When sorrow overwhelms you, Jesus comforts you and lifts you up out of despair. When lack is all you see, Jesus blesses your “small offering” and feeds the multitudes; leaving you with much more than you began with (see Mark 8:8). Victory is sure, no matter the circumstance; for nothing can reverse what He has already done!

We do face sorrows and suffering but not without hope. We face battles but with victory assured, because the greatest battle is death and that has already been defeated!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

The darkness cannot separate you from the love of God that is in our precious Savior! He makes the darkness tremble and He opens graves with resurrection life! Just the mention of His name brings light and life.

Thank you to all who mentioned His name over my life yesterday! You brought light and lifted me above the darkness. Let’s do that for those in need today. Let’s call out on the name of Jesus for those suffering and in deep grief

. We are an army of light and His name is written upon our hearts. We will arise and declare into the atmosphere and into nations the worth of Jesus. We will shout about the victory of our King.

Let’s join Him in making the darkness tremble today! Release so much light that even graves burst open with resurrection life! An army of light is rising up declaring the name of Jesus!

Let The Light In! Darkness Will Be Dispelled!

by Kathi Pelton

After nearly two months of constant travel my husband and I came home and immediately were faced with a very dark situation that a precious friend is facing. As we have been navigating our way through this grievous situation that is affecting so many, I could find myself becoming “distracted by the darkness.”

Last night as we prayed as a family for all involved I suddenly heard, “Be still and know that I am God.” In that moment I knew that we had done all that we could do and now it was time to stand and be still in the confident trust of the Lord. In our quiet surrender we felt peace and release come upon us. We had wept, interceded, reached out, ministered to those affected and now it was time to release it into the hands of the One whose name is Victory! We entered into the stillness of absolute trust and dependency.

Then I heard His voice invite me into His light. I saw a picture of me coming out from beneath a dark cloud into the unfiltered brightness and warmth of His light. Suddenly I felt the warmth of His light and love fill me and overcome the darkness that had loomed over the situation we’d been dealing with.

Yes, in this world there is so much darkness but there is a light that dispels all darkness. He is the Light of the World, the hope of all mankind, the peace that surpasses understanding and the One whose blood has paid the price for all sin and darkness. He is Jesus.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭

If you are facing darkness or if darkness has come to cloud your view; move into the Light! He is always there to remind you that the victory has already been purchased and assured to all those who will put their trust in Him. He is inviting you to come and soak in the Son. Let the light, warmth and love permeate your soul. Don’t stay in the shadows of darkness but come and let His light move you into hope and the absolute confidence of trust. He is saying to you too, “Be still and know that I am God.”

I hear this over individuals and I hear this over nations. Hong Kong…You are not alone and He will be exulted in the nations! Let His light fill you with hope and a new song; a song of deliverance. Let the sound of His faithfulness be heard throughout the nations.

Come and bask in the light of His love and grace. Come into the stillness of His agape love and confident hope. Cease striving and know that He is God!

The Immersion: A Dream

by Kathi Pelton

I had a dream last night where I was offered either a “body spray” of the Lord or a “perfume” of Him. I didn’t fully understand the terminology because it didn’t seem to fit with spiritual language; although perfume surely seemed like the logical choice. Then I watched as people came near to Him to receive an encounter, or “mist,” of His presence and power. They came near Him and enjoyed these encounters, but they didn’t seem to be lasting or transformational. I told the Lord I wanted more than a mist or spray of Him and instead chose the “perfume.”

At that point I was taken to what appeared to be a baptismal pool. I was placed in this pool, immersed in Him— in His full, undiluted presence. As I was immersed in His pure perfume, I lost myself and became one with Him. I realized that this pool was within His eye and I was the “apple of His eye”; His pupil, His focus.

This immersion was completely transformative as it took me from mere encounter to a consummation of oneness with Him. This perfume made me think of the preparation of Esther or the perfume that was poured over the feet of Jesus. The fragrance that permeated the room continued to flow from Him and now also came from me.

There is a choice; encounter or immersion; a mist or a baptism into oneness. The choice is an invitation, but the price for immersion is greater, as you must lose yourself. The gain is greater as well because you will be transformed into the fullness of Him.

Fix Your Gaze and Step Into Freedom

by Kathi Pelton

Last night a group of seven of us went to a very oppressed area of downtown Portland to do a prayer-walk (we’ve been prayer walking this area for the past six months). Though we had a very effectual night with amazing breakthrough, what our eyes had to look upon could grieve even the hardest heart. There were so many lives snared in the net of demonic oppression and addiction. Yet, as we stood on a particularly dark corner one of our team members said that the song, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, was running through his mind the whole night but the word “turn” was changed to “fix.” We all stood in the midst of the darkness (even people screaming at us) and began to sing,

Fix your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace…

As we sang, prayed and declared we watched as the things of earth grew dim. We fixed our gaze on the beauty of Jesus and the darkness was dispelled in the midst of His light. From that point on we had miraculous breakthroughs that we had been praying for over many months.

I share this testimony with you because the change and freedom came when we “fixed our gaze upon Jesus” in the midst of darkness.

“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking [Him] in His temple.” Psalm 27:4

As we fixed our gaze upon His beauty the darkness around us began to tremble. There were physical and natural happenings that we witnessed in response to the light and beauty being brought into the midst of darkness and depravity. We honestly stood in awe at what we witnessed last night because it was supernatural.

Though we shouldn’t have been surprised, honestly we were greatly shocked and surprised at the turn of events. I should know this truth well because in my personal life I strive to continually “fix my gaze” on Jesus and His beauty day and night. The sight of Him and “dwelling in His temple” has become my refuge and my fortress.

When trials or storms come, fixing my gaze upon Him becomes the place where my perspective is aligned with truth and victory. Fixing my eyes upon His beauty lifts me out of the circumstance that seek to “steal my gaze.” It lifts me from the captivity of fear into the freedom of the finished work of Christ.

If you are going through a storm and all you can see is the wind and waves, then now is the time to turn your eyes upon Jesus and fix your gaze upon His beauty. It will not only lift you above the storm but it will also calm the storm.

Often we empower storms or assignments sent against us when we fix our focus on them. The enemy seeks to steal our gaze and our light through darkness and fear. When this happens, we actually become a force that strengthens the storm rather than calms the storm. As you refocus your gaze upon Jesus it releases His power to calm the storm and moves you into freedom.

“For all creation, gazing eagerly as if with outstretched neck, is waiting and longing to see the manifestation of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19

As we fixed our gaze on Jesus last night we saw creation respond. Creation was waiting for the sons and daughters of God to arrive on the scene in a place where darkness was given dominion. Though there is still much work to do, we found that as we fixed our gaze upon His beauty and released what we saw, the mountains trembled and demons began to flee. Light dispels darkness, beauty transforms depravity, love overcomes hate! This works in our personal lives as well as in our cities and nations.

If you need freedom from oppression and circumstances that have left you captive; turn your gaze! Refocus your attention and your eyes upon His beauty and watch as peace comes upon you and the storm is stilled. Your perspective will change but circumstances will shift as well.

Fix your gaze and watch freedom come!

It’s Always Darkness Before The Dawn…Breakthrough Is Coming!

By Kathi Pelton

“My soul yearns for you in the night, and in the morning my spirit searches and looks out for you” Isaiah 26:9

Are you facing a darkness that has left you without sight or light? Throughout my life I have often found that right before the dawn breaks through, the darkness will appear as though it will swallow me alive. I have also learned through those dark moments to stand on the truth that I know rather than on what I see (or in those moments…what I can’t see!).

We often throw around these little quotes such as, It’s always darkest before the dawn.” or “The end is merely signaling your new beginning.” after we’ve come through the darkness. But if you are standing in the midst of the darkest hour, I’d like to encourage you to make that place a holy place. Allow the yearning of your soul in the dark night to become the sound of surrender. Cry out to the One who is the Light of the World and in the midst of the darkness declare that you have been given a great light.

Rather than let the darkness swallow you, let the light of Christ swallow the darkness. The times in life that leave you standing in the dark can become the most holy moments as you learn to declare His faithfulness and goodness in the face of opposing circumstances. As you declare the truth of who He is and offer the worship that He is due, the darkness suddenly becomes swallowed up in victory.

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “

O death, where is your victory? O death where is your sting?”” 1 Corinthians 15:55

What if you replace the word death with darkness? Surely darkness is swallowed up in victory when we declare His glorious goodness and light.

Some of my greatest victories have been won in my darkest hours. As I learned to allow His light to shine forth in the darkness, I was given victory over the power of darkness that was seeking to swallow me up. It is time to gain victory over the power that darkness has had over you!

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3

The dawn will come and it will illuminate the testimony of Jesus that was forged in the darkness! Just like in Daniel 3 when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego walked in the fire and came forth victorious; so will you!

Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire. And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them. Daniel 3:26-27

The power of darkness will not have consumed you, singed you nor harmed you because you know that the Light of the World is standing there with you. Just like the smell of fire was not found upon these three who walked in the flames, neither will despair, depression or hopelessness come upon you as you recognize that you are not alone in the darkness…for there is another standing with you and there is NO darkness in Him!

Now is the time to raise your hallelujah! Yes, right in the midst of the darkness and in the presence of your enemy. That is when you raise your voice and sing a little louder until you see the darkness flee. The power of the cross will swallow up the power of darkness!

The dawn of victory is about to rise. Let the light of the new day reveal the testimony of Jesus that is being formed in the darkness, while no one is looking. Let darkness hear the sound of your victory song and see the dance of the overcomer. Darkness can not withstand the light…so let your light shine.

This just might be your finest hour!

Another “YES” Vision

by Kathi Pelton

Today I once again saw a vision of people giving their “YES” to the Lord. For many, their “Yes” came out of their own need; such as the widow did when she gave her last coins in Luke 21. Though they had little to offer, they added their “Yes” to follow Him and to give their all.

“And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” Luke 21:1-4

In this vision I saw the Lord receive their “Yes” as if it were a coin or a “widow’s mite” offering. As it was received by the Lord, it was multiplied and prospered. It began to rain coins of provision upon the one who had said, “Yes!” All that they needed to follow Him, to be sent out and to obey His voice was released in response to their “yes offering.”

For a number of weeks now I keep hearing the words, “It is the time of the widow’s mite offering.” Each time that I hear it I see the words, “Change for change.” I sense that this is the heart that the Lord is searching for. He is looking for the ones who give their all. This is a pleasing sacrifice that will bring about a shift or change even in your natural resources.

It is the posture that declares, “He is worthy of it all!” It also declares that we trust in the Lord with all of our hearts. I don’t know what this looks like for each one of you but the Lord does. Ask Him.

There is a “Yes offering” that is being given in this hour that is breaking the ceiling that has held you down. It is releasing a prosperity that makes a way for your yes to be resourced. It will take you into all the world so that many more will give their yes.

Your “yes” is sending you out!You will be ambassadors of light and truth into a world of darkness and deception. Your yes is resounding through the atmosphere and reaching the heart of God. It is the future and hope that He has for you and for all who will be transformed by the light and truth that you are carrying.

“Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” John‬ ‭17:18-21‬ ‭

We give our “YES” to you, Lord.

Testimony Time! “God Will Order Your Steps”

by Kathi Pelton

The other day I was walking around a “beauty/make-up” store with my daughter. As she shopped I wandered around separately. As I wandered, I spotted a lady standing at the counter of their hair salon and immediately had the thought, “Ask her about their pricing.”

Though I needed my hair done, that surely wasn’t in my current budget or in my plans to do. Plus, I was happy with the hair dresser that I currently have. But I was compelled to ask the prices and for reasons unbeknown to me, I found myself making an appointment to have my hair done by her. I walked away perplexed and wondering why in the world I did that! I didn’t even tell my daughter because I was sure that I’d cancel it.

The appointment was two days away and in those two days numerous unexpected things happened that cost hundreds of dollars (including my husband dropping his contact lens only to step on it…costing $300!). I concluded that I for sure would cancel the hair appointment because now it really wasn’t in the budget! But, every time I went to cancel it I would hesitate and felt to hold off a bit longer.

Finally, yesterday was the day for the appointment. I had about 101 reasons to cancel it! They were all legitimate and good reasons. But I felt a nudge to keep moving forward on it…so I went.

Ten minutes after sitting down in the chair for the appointment the Lord showed up. This hair dresser had been raised as a Jehovah Witness and raised her children in the same religion. But something deep within her was crying out for a relationship with God and not mere religion. After her marriage had fallen apart she began to ask questions about if Jesus was truly God or merely a “god” as taught in her religious organization. She went on a deep journey to seek out truth and the true God. She was longing to walk with someone who had the answers that she was seeking.

Then God had me sit down in her chair to get my hair done. For the next three hours what we shared went so deep. While she worked on my hair she kept a tissue box nearby as the tears poured down her face. It was a divine appointment…not because I had to have my hair done but because the God of mercy and grace heard the cry of this woman who was longing desperately for Him. She found who her heart was longing for! We will now begin meeting together regularly.

The reason that I’m sharing this testimony is to remind you to pay attention to those seemingly “random” thoughts that you have that go against your plans but order your steps into divine appointments. I hadn’t planned to go to that store with my daughter that day but at the last minute decided to go just to be with her. I hadn’t planned to make a hair appointment, especially from a stranger and at a place that I knew nothing about. I hadn’t planned to keep this “random” appointment because it made no sense financially (especially with two days of non-stop unexpected large expenses coming upon us)…but my feet were compelled to walk out steps that I had not planned.

If I had given into “reason” or my thoughts I would have missed this and though God would have found another way to reach her, I wouldn’t have had the honor of being the one to watch her encounter the love of God and hear His truth.

I am always so grateful for those who obeyed the Lord when they shared the love of God with me when I first came to know Him. I’m sure that “I” was not a part of their plans! But, as believers, we commit our plans to the Lord and ask Him to order our steps. And…He does! We must be willing to follow that nudge in directions we hadn’t planned and as we do we end up right where He needs us to be.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9

You may be the answer to someone else’s prayers. Your steps may not make practical sense of even financial sense but listen to that still small voice that judges you to “just keep walking” and watch what He will do.

Divine appointments await you so make your plans but yield the ordering of His steps!

God is Intermingling the Old and the New

by Kathi Pelton

The uncompromising message that I heard as a young believer that taught foundational truths, holiness, and freedom from sin and death has often been lost in the desire to let the world know that we walk in love. Yet, no one had to water down the truth that brought conviction of sin when I came to know the Lord. Sin was devastating my life, and the love found within the message of freedom from sin and a God who would die to redeem me from it was greater love than I had ever imagined possible!

Somehow many have concluded that any message that brings real conviction or exposes sin is not love. Yet, there is more love than we can imagine in the message of an invitation into freedom. The truth that the wages of sin are death and hell is now a politically incorrect message, yet it is the truth that Jesus died for; the one that saved my life and the lives of countless men and women.

The teaching of universalism is that there is ultimately no hell, no final judgement for any individual. There are those who tell us that it is unloving to proclaim the truth that rejecting Christ’s payment for sin will result in eternal separation from God. Such ideas have the appearance of kindness, but they are merely a recipe for watered-down Christianity.

Hell is real, but it was not designed for men; instead, it was meant for Satan and his demon army. Jesus made a way, through His death on the cross, for every man and woman to be redeemed, because He paid the price for our sin. We have the opportunity to receive the free gift of salvation and righteousness before our God. It is amazing that God has not forced His love upon us, but has given us free will to accept it or to reject it. Love offers a choice; not a compromised choice, but real freedom to chose.

When I was a new believer I understood these important truths, but unfortunately there were not a lot of true “fathers and mothers” who would come alongside us new sons and daughters in order to nurture us. Many of us who had chosen Christ and received the gift of eternal life still struggled with deeply wounded souls. I was one who carried scars from my childhood and from the many bad choices I had made that brought great harm to my young life.

Though I had experienced the amazing love of God during my salvation experience, rigid “Do no sin!” messages—apart from the healing of my soul to replace the orphan spirit I carried—merely reinforced an unhealthy demand to perform and set me up for failure.

We are seeing a wonderful shift in this season, and messages of love, healing, intimacy, our true identity in Christ, loving family, and generations walking together are now nurturing new converts and healing wounded souls. However, this does not negate the need for us to understand our hopelessness outside of Christ. We must understand the message of holiness and healing found in Jesus.

What I see happening in the Spirit is an intermingling of the message of uncompromising holiness, true conviction of sin, and Jesus redeeming men from the penalty of sin (which is death and hell) with the message of intimacy, family, sonship, identity, grace and His “reckless love.” It’s “not either/or” but “both/and.”

Either message without the other brings about unbalanced living. One demands holiness apart from healing, and the other creates compromise that makes people “feel good”; but they are being comforted within the constraints of their captivity. We need both! We need holiness and we need healing, we need uncompromising truth and unconditional love, we need to displace the enemy and then fill that place with the true identity that God created men to live in.

There is an intermingling of holiness and healing! There is an intermingling of conviction of sin and healing of hearts! There is an intermingling of uncompromising truth and intimacy! And there is an intermingling of foundational teachings and His reckless love that creates true disciples that know they are sons and daughters.

This will release light to those caught in darkness. It is the message the world longs to hear and the balm that souls need to receive. It is new wine poured into new wine skins. One without the other causes the wine skins to burst and the wine to be wasted.

Let us enter into a yielded life that allows the Spirit of the Lord to intermingle the fullness of all the aspects and characteristics of God within our lives. May a bride who is both holy and healed emerge in this hour!
