I had a dream last night where I was offered either a “body spray” of the Lord or a “perfume” of Him. I didn’t fully understand the terminology because it didn’t seem to fit with spiritual language; although perfume surely seemed like the logical choice. Then I watched as people came near to Him to receive an encounter, or “mist,” of His presence and power. They came near Him and enjoyed these encounters, but they didn’t seem to be lasting or transformational. I told the Lord I wanted more than a mist or spray of Him and instead chose the “perfume.”
At that point I was taken to what appeared to be a baptismal pool. I was placed in this pool, immersed in Him— in His full, undiluted presence. As I was immersed in His pure perfume, I lost myself and became one with Him. I realized that this pool was within His eye and I was the “apple of His eye”; His pupil, His focus.
This immersion was completely transformative as it took me from mere encounter to a consummation of oneness with Him. This perfume made me think of the preparation of Esther or the perfume that was poured over the feet of Jesus. The fragrance that permeated the room continued to flow from Him and now also came from me.
There is a choice; encounter or immersion; a mist or a baptism into oneness. The choice is an invitation, but the price for immersion is greater, as you must lose yourself. The gain is greater as well because you will be transformed into the fullness of Him.
