Leaning On Your Beloved

By Kathi Pelton

Yesterday I was on a Zoom call and a beautiful discussion began regarding the words in Song of Solomon 8:5 that says,

“Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her beloved?”

We shared deep things about how 2020 has brought the Ecclesia globally into a desert place where He is teaching her to lean upon Him once more.

As we spoke, tears ran down my cheeks as I not only embrace what God is doing today but also remembered these very words that completed a journey God sent me on to save my life 25 years ago.

Though I was already a Christian (even in ministry), I went through the darkest desert experience imaginable for three years. This painful and dark time, which felt like a tomb, concluded with the most amazing and beautiful resurrection where I heard those words spoken to me by the One who I learned to lean on in that desert time— my time in the tomb.

That three year time period began when the Lord spoke to me the words from Hosea 2:14 that say, “But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.”

Jesus took me by the hand to “win me back once again.” There was a great battle and wrestle for my life but Jesus spoke so tenderly to me in that desert place. He fought for me and He won me.

The next verse says, “I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope. She will give herself to me there, as she did long ago when she was young, when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt.” Hosea 2:15

He had freed me from captivity when I came to know Him as my savior but once again He was going to use the “Valley of Trouble” to restore me and transform me. I was ready to go through the painful process of a metamorphosis that would change everything— transform me into who He created me to be.

I believe that His Bride is in a similar place here in 2020. God’s people have experienced freedom from captivity before but as 2020 began we were brought into a “Valley of Trouble” to be transformed once again. To have our vineyards and fruitfulness restored and to learn to “lean upon our Beloved” once again.

In the beginning of this year I discovered a song called “Lean Back” (by Capital City Music) that captured my heart so deeply. Right before Covid-19 began to shut down our nation I was literally playing that song on repeat every day and soaking in the beauty of His love. Then as we went into quarantine I would hear the words once again from Hosea 2:14, “But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.” It was, once again time to “learn to lean.” Here are just a few of the lines in the song,

— You’ve brought me here to rest
And given me space to breathe
So I’ll stay still until
It sinks in

— And I will lean back in the loving arms
Of a beautiful Father
Breathe deep and know that He is good
He’s a love like no other

— You will never leave
Your love sustaining me
Before I even knew
What love was

I knew that once again, we were being called back to first love. We were being given space in time to “breathe again” while the whole world was saying, “I can’t breathe!” His sons and daughters were being called into a rest that set us apart so that we could become a true resting place for the Lord (a dwelling place). The breathe of God was giving us life and first love.

“For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”” Psalms‬ ‭132:13-18‬ ‭

Here we are now, entering September, and I am still in that place of being set apart to fully learn to lean upon my Beloved like never before. I believe that many are. Though there is busyness all around us, there is still a place of rest and dependency that has found breath, life and first love renewed. I feel constantly undone by His beauty and goodness in the midst of such a contradicting time on earth. As people scream hate and act in violence, my soul has found “a love like no other.”

I deeply encourage you to yield to this time in the desert, in the “Valley of Trouble”, and let Him speak tenderly to you and restore to you all that has been lost. Then, you will hear the words,

“Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her (or his) beloved?”

It is there that we will find rest and become a resting place— a dwelling place for Him.

Words To Live By

By Kathi Pelton

I love words! Being a writer means that paper is my canvas and words are my paint. Finding the right word to describe something seen in the spirit or in the natural is vital to helping the reader to understand and have vision.

Our ministry is called, “Inscribe Ministries” based off of the verse from Habakkuk 2:2 that says,

“Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.”

To write a vision requires the right words which bring about understanding to the reader or listener of “how to run!“ It’s so powerful.

Jesus is called the 𝐿𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑑 because He encompasses everything found within the Word. All creation came forth from the words He spoke. There is power in words; to bless or to curse, to speak life or speak death, to empower or disempower and to build up or to tear down, to create or to destroy.

Our words matter! We must ask the Lord to train our mouths to speak words that bless, give life and empower those around us to run. Your words are usually a good way to x-ray your heart,

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.“ Luke 6:45

This is why we must follow the wisdom found in Philippians 4:8,

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

As we think on these things they renew our hearts and minds causing what comes forth from our mouths to profit those who hear our words. When I was a new believer my heart and mind still needed to be renewed by the Word therefore critical, negative, fretful and judgmental words would leak out; always exposing what needed to be cleaned out of my heart. God was not condemning me, but if I were honest, my words were a clear sign of where my heart needed to be cleaned and renewed.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

When my husband and I were directing a house of prayer for Patricia King she would lead prayer sessions with us where we would “decree the Word of God.“ These times trained our team and all who attended how much power comes forth as we decreed His written Word! I quickly saw the fruitful harvest that would come when I spoke aloud His Word over my life and my family’s lives. Decreeing His Word is like allowing your heart to be strained through the Spirit of Truth; filtering out all the dross.

I remember asking the Lord to put a coal of fire near my lips so that I would not speak anything unholy.

“So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”” Isaiah‬ ‭6:5-7‬ ‭

These verses come right before the verse that says, “Here am I, send me.” This is so important before being “sent.” We must be sent with words of life, hope, truth that prosper and edify the hearer. We must go forth with hearts that have been made clean.

As we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding this global quarantine, I believe that the eyes of the Lord are searching the earth for the ones He might send. But let us first pray the scriptures written above. We need pure hearts, clean hands, words that have been freed from the grip of iniquity and thoughts that profitable to the hearer! We need words that release vision and cause the sent ones to run with purpose.

Today, listen to your words so that you can do a ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑐𝑘. Then, if you find that your words are revealing areas that need to be renewed and cleansed; don’t enter into guilt or condemnation because God loves it when we receice His lovingkindness that brings discipline. He is so happy that you desire a clean heart and He has provided you 𝑊𝑂𝑅𝐷𝑆 𝑇𝑂 𝐿𝐼𝑉𝐸 𝐵𝑌.

It’s time to prepare to be sent ones! We must carry words of life that bear fruit wherever they are sown.

A Spirit of Idleness Is Coming Off God’s People

By Kathi Pelton

This morning I kept seeing a specific assignment that has been sent against many of God’s people that was keeping them from effectiveness and fruitfulness. It was an assignment to create “idle lives.” It was coming through depression, anxiety, cynicism, illness (infirmity/injury), hopelessness, rebellion and even mental illness (or mental fog).

These were specific assignments to cause lives that were created for an effectual work that would destroy the works of darkness and establish His Kingdom of light to be diminished and become idle.

An idle machine is one that is unused. It may have everything it needs to be effective and of great use but it is not in use and therefore it is idle.

If that is you then begin to break all agreements with an idle life! Begin to prophesy over the areas that have been targeted by the enemy to render you idle. Prophecy the purposes of God over your body, your soul and your spirit. Prophecy the restart of your life and calling!

Declare diligence, perseverance
energy, action, exuberance, liveliness, robustness, sprightliness, vibrancy, vigor, vitality and resurrection over your life! These are key antonyms for idleness and spirit filled words that bring life to that which has fallen asleep.

Lethargy is closely related to idleness. The spirit of lethargy is one that has been sent against God’s people time and time again. But I believe that with every assignment sent by the enemy, he looks for an “agreement” through avenues such as self-loathing, unbelief, disappointments, hope deferred, depression, etc. There is often a “wearing down of the Saints” that creates a landing strip for lethargy.

After a serious car accident in 2016 I had to fight the temptation to agree with a “new norm” of continual pain that would result in idleness (and quite frankly good reason to become idle). After a time of recovery my new norm had to be “daily overcoming” rather than being overcome by pain everyday. God is very compassionate toward the attacks that have come upon many of you but there is an overcoming that comes by rejecting an agreement with whatever “life sentence” the enemy is trying to place upon you. Agree with the fact that you overcome through the blood of the Lamb and the word of His testimony.

Some agreements could have come through a weakness that you personally have dealt with that has sought to become your identity or to disqualify you from being effective for His use and His Kingdom. But the Bible makes it clear that it is in our weakness that Christ makes His power known! Reject that which apparently has disqualified you! Agree with “Christ in you!” He is the resurrection and life! There is constant movement (while experiencing spiritual rest), continual forward motion and a fruitfulness in every season as we allow “Christ in us” to be the source!

Take the time to break every agreement with idleness. Your agreements may come from legitimate struggles but God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than you can ask or imagine. Agree with Christ in you— to live and move!

“For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’” Acts 17:28

It is time to live and move and have our being— this means “I exist!” Choose life, stir your movement and declare over your life, “I exist! I am a carrier of His glory!” The enemy want you to disappear from the scene and to become unseen, unused and non-existent! YOU EXIST! It’s time to be seen, to be effective and allow the world to see Christ in you— the hope of glory!

His Secret Garden Is Being Unlocked In You

By Kathi Pelton

Years ago when our family still lived in California I would take long walks every morning. My route was the same each day and on that route I’d love to look at the beautiful yards that lined the streets. But there was this one house on one of the streets that had a yard that was full of weeds; overgrown and clearly never tended to. It always grabbed my attention as it stood out in such contrast to the well-kept yards all around it. One day as I passed by it I just stopped and stared at it for a very long time. I found myself lost in the potential that it had. I could tell that at one time someone had planted a flower garden within it but many years had gone by without a gardener to tend to it and now weeds choked out it’s once held beauty.

That day, as I stood there dreaming of what I’d do if it was my garden, the Lord spoke to me. He said, “Kathi, every person you walk by has great potential. Within each person is a secret garden filled with beauty was created to display different aspects of My image. Will you stop and dream with Me when you see a broken person that has not been nurtured or tended to with love? They are My secret gardens that I want unlocked.”

I knew that when He said “dream with Me” that it implied prayer, seeing beyond the natural, speaking identity, sowing into them and nurturing them. I said, “Yes.”

That “yes” began a journey of seeing with new eyes. I learned to look at people through the eyes of their Creator. Not one single person was ever created outside of His image and His beauty. Not one!

My husband and I found ourselves taking teenaged boys into our home that were broken, bruised and orphaned. These boys were so damaged that it truly took a revelation of “who God created them to be” to be able to walk day after day through their anger, their depravity and the brokenness that had become their identity.

One of our boys was easily triggered by little things in everyday life. His anger would come out with such venom that we needed a divine strategy of how to calm his pain. The Lord had shown me who he was created to be and even the plans for his life. He asked me to begin to speak that beauty over him in these moments of rage. The next time this young teen was triggered I looked at him and said, “Son, that’s not who you are! You are beautiful, kind, caring…” As I began to speak to “who he was” (rather than address what he was doing), he began weeping. He would let me hold him, calm him and restore him to peace. He expected someone to tell him who he had been taught he was (angry, unwanted, hateful, stupid, etc.) but what he received was a love that called him into his true identity. Today this young man is walking in that beautiful identity! The secret garden was unlocked and tended to with love and care.

This morning as I waited before the Lord I felt two things deep on His heart; one was how His people see themselves. The second was how His people see the broken (especially in the younger generation).

Far too often even those who know the Lord view themselves through their pasts or what the natural world has taught them. They see their weeds, their thorns, their hardened soil rather than partnering with God to unlock the hidden beauty (the secret garden) of who He created them to be. It is only when we believe that we possess beauty, value, potential and great purpose that we partner with Him to see it unlocked. As long as we can’t see beyond the weeds we will lose hope and become overwhelmed by the tangled mess. But God does for us what I did for our teen boys; He speaks true identity, beauty, purpose and potential. He invites His sons and daughters into the discovery of His image within them. When we allow our ears to hear the truth we begin to be transformed.

I often say that God has truly surprised me “with me!” Before knowing the Lord I saw absolutely no beauty and no potential beyond surviving and hiding behind masks. Every time I look at what the Lord has done in my life, I truly stand in awe because my “garden” was so locked up that I didn’t even know it existed. Finding “Him in me” has been the greatest treasure hunt! If you haven’t begun to find the treasure called, “You” then it is time to go exploring with the One who created you.

We must also begin to see beyond all the false identities, the masks that block shame, the confusion, and the shock of a world that has forgotten who they are and who’s image they are created in. We must ask the Spirit to begin to reveal His true identity that is beyond what is seen or being lived out in the world around us. Then we can pray, speak life, call them forth and unlock the garden within them.

The world is full of locked gardens but finding His image in them is the key to unlocking the true beauty. Though my initial reaction to that unkept yard was to look the other way or judge it as “unwanted”; the Lord used it to unlock a call on my life to see beauty beyond the natural sight in people.

God is longing to unblock our spiritual sight to see beyond the depravity and brokenness. He longs for us to see beyond the deceit and confusion. He wants us to speak life and to declare, “That’s not who you are! You are beautiful, valued, desired, longed for and deeply loved.”

Speak it over yourself and then speak it over a world (and generation) that has forgotten who they are. It’s time to unlock the beauty!

I want to leave you with the words I hear Him saying over you and over His created ones today from Song of Songs 4,

“How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes behind your veil are doves. Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from the hills of Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing. Each has its twin; not one of them is alone. Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate. Your neck is like the tower of David, built with courses of stone; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors. Your breasts are like two fawns, like twin fawns of a gazelle that browse among the lilies. Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, I will go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of incense. You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon. Descend from the crest of Amana, from the top of Senir, the summit of Hermon, from the lions’ dens and the mountain haunts of leopards. You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume more than any spice! Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride; milk and honey are under your tongue. The fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride; you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain. Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates with choice fruits, with henna and nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree, with myrrh and aloes and all the finest spices. You are a garden fountain, a well of flowing water streaming down from Lebanon. Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread everywhere. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.” Song of Songs‬ ‭4:1-16‬ ‭

The Shout That Releases A Heavenly Rescue Mission

By Kathi Pelton

We truly are in a time of battle against the enemies of God! Or maybe I should say that the enemy is in a battle with those who are lovers of God! But we know that “love wins!”

I woke up with a song lyric going through my mind. Often God will put a song in my spirit to speak to me about what He is doing. This time it was the line from the song, “You Have Won Me” (Brian & Jen Johnson/Bethel Music) that says,

“Shout it out and lift up one voice in worship, sing it out until all the earth can hear it, Jesus is alive and He saves, He rescues and saves!”

There is a battle cry (or shout) to be released! Let’s shout it out as one voice until all the earth can hear it, “Jesus is alive and He saves…He rescues and saves!” The enemy hates truth, hates unity and oneness and hates the sound of salvation. Why? Because it is a frequency that shatters darkness and sets the captives free.

“The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.” Psalms‬ ‭91:14‬ ‭

He will rescue and save you! He will rescue and save this generation! His salvation will come like a flood in response to our battle cry because it carries “salvations sound!”

I see in the days ahead stadiums full of desperate and passionate people shouting out, “Jesus is alive and He saves, He rescues and saves!” Their sound will not be contained within the stadium walls but it will fill the atmosphere of cities and regions with the song of salvation that sets slaves free! It will release a rescue mission to a generation!

I see mom’s on their bedroom floor shouting out the same words over their prodigal children and in response Jesus releases a rescue mission to leave the ninety-nine to save the one.

I see nations shouting these words over the unborn and a mighty rescue mission to save the babies in the womb! The sound with bring triumph over death.

Shout it out!! It’s time! It’s the sound of salvation and the sound that signals a rescue mission to loose the captives and to shatter the darkness…even the darkness that has opposed you, oppressed you and tried to shut your mouth. It’s time to shout! Jesus is alive and He saves, He rescues and saves!

The Immersion: A Dream

by Kathi Pelton

I had a dream last night where I was offered either a “body spray” of the Lord or a “perfume” of Him. I didn’t fully understand the terminology because it didn’t seem to fit with spiritual language; although perfume surely seemed like the logical choice. Then I watched as people came near to Him to receive an encounter, or “mist,” of His presence and power. They came near Him and enjoyed these encounters, but they didn’t seem to be lasting or transformational. I told the Lord I wanted more than a mist or spray of Him and instead chose the “perfume.”

At that point I was taken to what appeared to be a baptismal pool. I was placed in this pool, immersed in Him— in His full, undiluted presence. As I was immersed in His pure perfume, I lost myself and became one with Him. I realized that this pool was within His eye and I was the “apple of His eye”; His pupil, His focus.

This immersion was completely transformative as it took me from mere encounter to a consummation of oneness with Him. This perfume made me think of the preparation of Esther or the perfume that was poured over the feet of Jesus. The fragrance that permeated the room continued to flow from Him and now also came from me.

There is a choice; encounter or immersion; a mist or a baptism into oneness. The choice is an invitation, but the price for immersion is greater, as you must lose yourself. The gain is greater as well because you will be transformed into the fullness of Him.

God is Repairing the Wall Around Your Life With His Faithfulness

by Kathi Pelton

This past Sunday I was taken into a vision where I saw a wall that protected each of God’s people from the thief (the enemy). This wall was built out of stones that declared His faithfulness. They were like colored stones (or precious stones) that represented the different aspects of His faithfulness and promises. It was a high wall that was fortified by the faith of the believer that it was placed there to protect and it was built upon the timeline of their lives.

As I looked out upon each of these amazing walls (each individual had their own wall), I began to notice places that were broken down and darkened. They were gaps where I saw that breaches had been created and the thief could enter in through. I asked the Lord what had created these gaps (or broken places) and immediately He showed me moments or seasons in these individuals lives where a hardship or trial had come and in great discouragement they aligned with lies that declared that “God was not faithful”. Whether through agreeing with doubt, despair, accusations against God’s character or words that compromised the truth of His faithfulness; that place in their wall had a gap and the colorful stones were knocked down and dark (blackened).

Then I heard Him speak these words,

“I am repairing the walls of my people’s lives so that the enemy can no longer breach it and rob them of my promise of abundant life. Tell them to declare My faithfulness and the attributes of My faithfulness over the timeline of their lives.”

I shared this with the people of our church this past Sunday and then I had them stand up and together we began to declare God’s faithfulness into the gaps and broken places in the wall of our lives (history and timeline). These declarations, along with repentance for agreeing with the enemy, were rebuilding the wall of His faithfulness and bringing back the color to these precious stones. The wall of His faithfulness that protected them from the thief (John 10:10) was being fortified so that they could live in abundant life.

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” John 10:10‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We all have had battles with doubt and unbelief, but if there have been times and seasons where you allowed words of agreement that declared something other than His absolute faithfulness then now is the time to renounce and repent of those agreements and to declare His faithfulness! Shout out the words of His faithfulness and character over the places of compromised truth that allowed gaps in the wall of your life that the enemy has been breaching.

• Over every agreement with doubt we declare, “I believe in Your faithfulness with unwavering confidence!”

• Over every agreement that blamed God for things we experienced, we repent and declare, “You are blameless!”

• Over every accusation that was spoken by our mouths or entertained in our hearts, that stood against God and His character; we renounce those words and nullify their power. We declare, “You are faithful and true, pure and holy, good and kind, abounding in perfect love!”

• Over every moment or season in our past that we have aligned with a compromise regarding the faithfulness of God; we repent and declare over those times, “You are and have always been faithful to me!”

We now evict the thief and his cohorts who have used these gaps in the walls of our lives to rob us of the fullness of the abundant life that God intended for us. We receive the grace and mercy that the cross has provided. We declare that our lives will testify of the faithfulness of our God and the world will see the manifestation of God’s faithfulness resting upon His Bride. Then they will know that HE IS LORD!

Declare it! “Faithful You are! Faithful, forever You will be!” Declare it daily, declare it in the storm, declare it in the battle, declare it in the victory. It is your testimony and your truth!

Fix Your Gaze and Step Into Freedom

by Kathi Pelton

Last night a group of seven of us went to a very oppressed area of downtown Portland to do a prayer-walk (we’ve been prayer walking this area for the past six months). Though we had a very effectual night with amazing breakthrough, what our eyes had to look upon could grieve even the hardest heart. There were so many lives snared in the net of demonic oppression and addiction. Yet, as we stood on a particularly dark corner one of our team members said that the song, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, was running through his mind the whole night but the word “turn” was changed to “fix.” We all stood in the midst of the darkness (even people screaming at us) and began to sing,

Fix your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace…

As we sang, prayed and declared we watched as the things of earth grew dim. We fixed our gaze on the beauty of Jesus and the darkness was dispelled in the midst of His light. From that point on we had miraculous breakthroughs that we had been praying for over many months.

I share this testimony with you because the change and freedom came when we “fixed our gaze upon Jesus” in the midst of darkness.

“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking [Him] in His temple.” Psalm 27:4

As we fixed our gaze upon His beauty the darkness around us began to tremble. There were physical and natural happenings that we witnessed in response to the light and beauty being brought into the midst of darkness and depravity. We honestly stood in awe at what we witnessed last night because it was supernatural.

Though we shouldn’t have been surprised, honestly we were greatly shocked and surprised at the turn of events. I should know this truth well because in my personal life I strive to continually “fix my gaze” on Jesus and His beauty day and night. The sight of Him and “dwelling in His temple” has become my refuge and my fortress.

When trials or storms come, fixing my gaze upon Him becomes the place where my perspective is aligned with truth and victory. Fixing my eyes upon His beauty lifts me out of the circumstance that seek to “steal my gaze.” It lifts me from the captivity of fear into the freedom of the finished work of Christ.

If you are going through a storm and all you can see is the wind and waves, then now is the time to turn your eyes upon Jesus and fix your gaze upon His beauty. It will not only lift you above the storm but it will also calm the storm.

Often we empower storms or assignments sent against us when we fix our focus on them. The enemy seeks to steal our gaze and our light through darkness and fear. When this happens, we actually become a force that strengthens the storm rather than calms the storm. As you refocus your gaze upon Jesus it releases His power to calm the storm and moves you into freedom.

“For all creation, gazing eagerly as if with outstretched neck, is waiting and longing to see the manifestation of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19

As we fixed our gaze on Jesus last night we saw creation respond. Creation was waiting for the sons and daughters of God to arrive on the scene in a place where darkness was given dominion. Though there is still much work to do, we found that as we fixed our gaze upon His beauty and released what we saw, the mountains trembled and demons began to flee. Light dispels darkness, beauty transforms depravity, love overcomes hate! This works in our personal lives as well as in our cities and nations.

If you need freedom from oppression and circumstances that have left you captive; turn your gaze! Refocus your attention and your eyes upon His beauty and watch as peace comes upon you and the storm is stilled. Your perspective will change but circumstances will shift as well.

Fix your gaze and watch freedom come!

I hear the Lord’s whispering to His Bride today saying, “Will you draw near to Me?”

Life pulls at us to give our time, energy and focus to everything but stillness. It truly is the greatest wrestle for people. Taking time daily to be still and draw near to God is immediately met with a battle of distraction in the mind and heart.

I often begin my “drawing near time” by praying out of Philippians 4:7,

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

His peace comes to guard my heart and mind from distraction so that I can draw near.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” James 4:8(a)

To draw near to someone takes intentionality. When I was a young mom in ministry, I had to set days aside to draw near to my children, to my husband and to my source of life, Jesus.

There was the constant “need of others” vying for my time and attention. It took time and a maturing process but I had to learn that I was not other’s “Savior” and that when I drew away from the crowds to draw near to God or my family, I was not neglecting or abandoning the call of God upon my life or my commitment to others.

There were times that I faced criticism and judgements when I drew back but even Jesus knew when to leave the crowds to draw near to His Father or to His family (the disciples).

A number of months ago I heard the Lord calling me to “come away with Him to draw near to Him for an extended time.” It was at a time that my entire family was leaving to go to an important family event in another state. I wrestled with the invitation to “draw near” because I knew that this time with our extended family was a once in a lifetime experience. But the Spirit was persistent and continued to whisper an invitation to “stay behind and draw near to Him.”

Finally, I spoke with my family and they quickly blessed me to stay behind. When they drove away I went directly to my bedroom with my Bible and my journal to lay down on the floor to draw near to God.

Over the next three days God drew near to me in deep, constant intimacy. As I accepted His invitation to draw near to Him, He drew near to me with profound presence, amazing affections, deep intercession, refreshing and renewal. This time truly reset my life and my intimacy with Him.

The same is true with my husband and children. I tend to be very “single focused” and yet my life is always juggling a hundred different things. When I am doing a task it usually gets all of my attention and focus. This can be a good trait but for my family, who also needs my attention, it can be challenging. My kids (who are all young adults now) have taken to calling me by my full name (rather than Mom) when they can’t get my attention. When I hear the name, “Kathleen” by one of my kids it somehow jolts me out of my ultra focused state and back onto them.

I never want Jesus to have to work hard to get my attention off the work of the Kingdom and back onto the King.

Intimacy is forged as we get still and draw near. I am a very early riser because it is in the quiet of the dawn that I draw near to Him. Yet even then I must be intentional to not allow distractions to draw my mind and heart away.

“…fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

We must take time to fix our attention on Jesus. We are being invited to draw near and give our undivided attention and affections to the One who gave His all for us.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:1-3

It is vital to set our minds upon Jesus and intentionally devote time to drawing near to Him. It is then that you will find that He draws near to you in ways that sustain you, renew you, refresh you and draw you into abundant living.

He’s whispering an invitation to you, “Will you draw near to Me today?”

As you say yes, know that He will draw near to you!
