Clothed In Christ

By Kathi Pelton

I always love the Apostle Paul’s honesty regarding his self-evaluations in the scriptures. The more that the beauty and holiness of Christ is revealed to him, the more he realizes how weak, wretched and lacking he is. BUT…he does not at all despair in his self-evaluation because it merely causes the “glory of God” to be revealed all the more.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

We all have weaknesses and areas that we battle for greater victory in. Some days end in great triumph, as Christ’s beauty and power is made manifest in you, and other days you lay down more aware of your weaknesses then ever before. It is in those times that, like Paul, that you can boast in your weakness because it is His power that will be seen and His glory that will manifest. On those hard days, before your Father, all that is seen is “Christ in you and His righteousness covering you.”

You are clothed in Christ. When you approach your Heavenly Father, He does not see your shortcomings, your weaknesses or flaws— He sees His Son! There is no stain upon Him and therefore— no stain is seen upon those who have been “baptized into Christ.”

“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3:27

Of course this does not mean that you make concessions for sin or that you do not fight against the temptation that comes but it does mean that He covers your nakedness in garments of righteousness and salvation. You need to continually put on “the new self” and yet know that when you fall short that you are still “Clothed in Christ.”

“I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” Isaiah‬ ‭61:10‬ ‭

What a beautiful truth that you can cling to! This gives you great cause to rejoice and be joyful. Yet, the enemy desires to steal this promise and truth from you. He sends his demons to watch for your areas of weakness, to provoke you in that area and to mock you in regards to that weakness. They whisper accusations to bring you shame and to cause you to hide from God. And yet, you must remember that you are not naked and exposed but clothed in robes of righteousness— the righteousness of Christ. There is no need to hide for a garment has been provided for you.

Once again, though you are clothed in Christ— daily remember to wear His righteousness in a manner that displays His worth and faithfulness. Just as you take up the armor of God each day, so you can train your soul to get dressed each morning in garments of righteousness.

When I became a Christian at 18 years old— I drastically changed the way that I had previously dressed. My nakedness had been exploited and even used for my advantage to gain what I desired. But when I was baptized into Christ, I was not only spiritually clothed and covered with His robe of righteousness but I also had to learn how to outwardly dress different and how to live differently. Now, 38 years later, I am still pressing in, through the help of the Holy Spirit, to see my life match and align with the garments that He has placed upon me. I do not want to be a stumbling block for those who see me therefore I deeply desire and fight to see Christ revealed in every part of me.

You are on a journey into maturity. It is so important to know that while you are journeying— “He has you covered!” Otherwise, you would be utterly defeated even before you began. You also must know that the pathway to purity never ends. We will always fall short of His glory but His righteousness is a robe that covers all of our unrighteousness. You are left never left naked and ashamed before your Heavenly Father.

So today get up and say to your soul, “You are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.” Then put your spiritual armor on and go out in victory, boldness, purity and His strength. It’s time to take down some giants by wearing His name!

This is Who You Are! The Transformation of “Christ in You” is Now Upon You

Kathi Pelton

Many years ago I was with a young man that was just coming to know the Lord. His life had been visited time and time again with great loss and disappointment. He had not been able to process the losses in his life or receive the comfort he greatly needed. This caused a build up of rage that would continually have to be released. One day as this build up was spilling out I asked the Lord what to do and He said,

Tell him, “This is not who you are.”

I looked into the eyes of this young man, who was full of pain and rage, and said the words the Lord asked me to say,

“This is not who you are!”

Then from my mouth I began to speak the truth of whoGod says that he is. Then I took him in my arms and held him like a mother would hold their own child until the rage turned to tears and the comfort that his soul longed for was finally realized.

I am sharing this story because the enemy has been trying to stir up areas in people’s lives that have not been fully redeemed; they have not been comforted in times of loss and trauma. We were created to give and receive comfort and compassion. When a person does not receive nurturing and comfort in these times it will often turn into strongholds of control, aggression and rage.

If you are dealing with these strong emotions and reactions as you see the world around you in all kinds of chaos, the Lord want you to know,

“This is not who you are!”

I declare over you that your true identity is found in the identity of Jesus Christ. You were created in His image and you carry within you peace, love, joy, compassion, beauty and self-control.

For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

I declare power, love and self-control over your life and into your soul. I speak the release of comfort over the areas of traumas and wounds that have left you feeling out of control. I declare His breath of life now to come upon you and blow away the darkness that has overshadowed who you truly are. And lastly, I declare compassion, peace, forgiveness and hope into you even now.

You were created to walk, speak and live in the character of Christ. Though the enemy stirs the waters of strife, you were created to merely touch those waters and bring peace to those around you. When people around you scream out in rage, who will dare to tell them,

“This is not who you are.”

The people of God are to be the ones who bring peace, the ones who bring words of hope and life, the very ones who bring Christ to a world that is out of control. We must be renewed and allow Christ to be formed within us.

God wanted his people throughout the world to know the glorious riches of this mystery-which is Christ living in you, giving you the hope of glory.  Colossians 1:27

It is vital that, as God’s people, we allow our minds to be renewed. We must meditate and dwell on who He is, what is pure and what is worthy. The enemy stirs up storms to get people fixated on what he is orchestrating which merely creates a greater wind of adversity. We have been given authority over these “winds of adversity” by the Spirit who lives within us and transforms us into the very image of Christ. Then we truly become light in the darkness and peace in the storm.

I love this renewal verse from the Amplified Bible,

Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].  Philippians 4:8

This is a key verse for transformation. You will not only have your mind renewed as you think continually on these things, but you will posture yourself to receive comfort, compassion and healing from past events that have distorted your character and identity. Power, love and self-control (a sound mind) will come upon you.

Finally…forgive those who persecute you and do not judge so that you are not judged by that same harsh standard. If you follow the words below, they will set you free,

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  Luke 6:27-36

“But to you who are listening…”

We must listen and obey. God’s people must allow their lives to be transformed by His Word of truth. These are the mysteries that unlock the Kingdom of God to come to the Earth. These are the mysteries, that when lived out, bring healing and transformation to those around us. It is all upside down in the systems of this world and the hearts of men apart from God. We are called to listen and then to live in God’s truth which puts us “right side up”

THIS IS WHO YOU ARE!

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  1 Peter 2:9

We have entered the time that we must yield to the work of Christ being formed within our lives. The enemy fears this more than anything else because it is the key to bringing light into the darkness. We have entered the time of transition or the time of birthing. This is the time where the sons and daughters are being revealed…creation has yearned and groaned for this day. It is as if a deep labor has come upon many to birth the transformation and reformation that will usher in the great harvest and ultimately the return of Christ. The pressure you feel comes from the push to give birth to becoming true sons and daughters.

For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.  Romans 8:19

You are birthing who you are and who the sons and daughters of God are. You are laboring for the transformation and revelation of Christ in us…the hope of glory.

According to Ellicott’s Bible Commentary the hope of glory is this,

“The glory” is the glorified state of perfection in heaven, wrapt in the communion with God, and so “changed from glory to glory.”

The fullness of the metamorphosis (transformation) is upon the sons and daughters of God. There is pressure in the birthing and transformation…yield to truth, to the mystery of His Word and allow Christ to be birthed within you.

Again…this is who you are and who you were created to be!
