Oh, How He Loves You!

By Kathi Pelton

The Bible is the greatest love story ever written. Within its pages are words of life, words of grace, words of redemption and words that love— a love that goes even unto death.

Above all else, every person longs to be loved; to be loved unconditionally, to be adored completely and to never be abandoned by that love.

Yet, there is only One who has ever loved in the way we long to be loved and were created to be loved— that One is Yahweh! Yahweh means “He Who Makes That Which Has Been Made.” He created each one of us in His image– to be loved with agape love. Agape love is the unconditional love that we were created to enjoy and to give. This agape love is what every created being longs for– and it is available to every person through the love of Christ.

When sin entered the world it also entered our experience with being loved. The unselfish and unconditional love that we were intended to give and receive was now tainted with selfishness, conditions and limitations. This left mankind in a constant state of “want” or “lack” causing people to try to fill their core longing with lesser things such as power, greed, wealth and fame. Human love became tainted with selfish motives— eros love replaced agape love. And yet…God still remained faithful in His agape love! His perfect and undefiled love sent His Son to be the sacrifice for our sin.

Though the definition of love is increasingly being redefined by depravity and confusion; God’s love remains true, pure and undefiled. It remains available to all who choose to believe and receive the gift of perfect love: His Son—Jesus.

As we celebrate a day that is focused on love, let us not be disillusioned by the eros love (a love that has self attached to it) that we have experienced but let us allow the agape love to wash over us and heal our hearts so that we may, in turn, love with His love.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18

Agape love remains available to all. Jesus died for all and His love has not grown cold for even the most deprived heart. He cannot be anything less then perfect in His love for all; for He cannot deny Himself.

If your heart had not been touched by agape love or healed by God’s perfect love then ask Him now to enter your heart and life. It will transform you, redeem you and free you from living in hope deferred.

Today is the day that your Valentines experience can become one that fulfills rather that leaves you wanting. His love will fill you to overflowing so that you will lack no good thing.

He is offering you what you truly long for; agape love. All you have to do is believe and receive.

Happy Valentines Day!
