Many years ago I learned the power of praying the Scriptures aloud. When I was a new believer the Holy Spirit instructed me to spend an extended period of time reading aloud all 150 psalms each day. I was to personalize them and make them my prayers and my worship. That season of obedience set me free from things that had enslaved me, it renewed my mind, and it released the power of prayer and the power of His Word into my life.
Hebrews 4:12 says,
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
His Word became the sword of freedom in my life. It held the power to break me free from old mindsets and from wrong beliefs that held me captive. It renewed my mind and taught me the ways of God. Praying His Word set me free from the slavery of sin, and I will never stop using it to give me life and allow His power to purify my thoughts and desires.
This past month I have been praying through the Book of Romans. When I awoke this morning, the Spirit said to me,
“Romans is a book of freedom from sin. It is a sharp sword that will set people free as they pray and decree its words over their lives.”
Right then, Romans chapter six was highlighted to me and I knew that I was to write it down and change the wording to a personal declaration for people to declare aloud.
Your voice and words have power. Proverbs 18:21 says that your tongue carries both life and death. It is time for life to be released through your voice! Let heaven hear it, let hell hear it, let angels and demons hear it, let your soul and spirit hear your tongue declare life and truth.
I strongly encourage you to get somewhere that you can read aloud the personalized version of Romans 6 that I have written below. Pray it, declare it, and join yourself to its truth. It is time for the power of sin to be broken off of the lives of believers. A sword has been put in our hands and the power of life flows from our mouth; together they set the captives free.
Psalm 149:6 says, “Let the high praises of God be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand.”
It is time to be free and to set free! His Word is powerful and it is your sword. To live without it is to live as a warrior with no weapon in your hand. Sin has lost its power over your life so declare the words below each day until you see the chains that have bound you—or a loved one—fall away. Here we go…(Romans 6: “Sins Power is Broken”)
“I know that my old sinful self was crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in my life. I am no longer a slave to sin.
And since I died with Christ, I know I will also live with Him. I am sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and He will never have to die again. Death no longer has any power over Him. When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God. So I also should consider myself to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
I will not let sin control the way I live; I will not give in to sinful desires. I will not let any part of my body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, I will give myself completely to God, for I was dead, but now I have new life. I will use my whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer my master, for I no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, I live under the freedom of God’s grace. Since God’s grace has set me free from the law, does that mean that I should go on sinning? Of course not! I now realize that I become a slave to whatever I choose to obey. I can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or I can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.
Today I choose to become a slave to righteousness. Thank God! Once I was a slave of sin, but now I wholeheartedly choose to obey this teaching that he has given to me. I am now free from my slavery to sin, and I have become a slave to righteous living.”
Pray the Word over your life, over the life of your loved ones, and over your city and nation.
Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The Sword is in your hand and the fire of the Spirit is upon your sword. Use it to cut down all that has exalted itself against the truth and life of Christ in you. There is life in your mouth and the fire of the Spirit is igniting your tongue to release resurrection life. We must stop wrestling against flesh and blood and begin to be the warriors that carry freedom and life into all that we do and everywhere that we go. You carry resurrection life within you because Christ is in you. He is alive! You are free from the slavery of sin and carry the righteousness of Christ in you. His righteousness is your righteousness!
It is time to pick up your fiery sword and allow the words of your mouth to defeat all that has been exalted against God’s ways, truth, freedom, and life. We are warriors with the sword of victory in our hands.
