A short time ago my family moved to a new city (in a new state). It is a large city and nothing is familiar or known to us; no familiar markers or memories…everything is new.
We had lived in Northern California most of our lives where everything was familiar to us. Our families had been in that area for generations. We didn’t need directions or GPS; we knew almost every area by heart. It seemed that every road, every shop, every neighborhood had a familiar memory that made it easy to navigate and we always felt at home.
Now, in this new city, nothing is familiar; there are no memories that point the way home and often we can’t figure out what direction we are driving. As we drive the roads of this new city we have become fully dependent on our GPS navigation systems to get us where we need to go.
The other day I was on my way to an appointment and listening for the (now familiar) voice that instructs me that the next turn is coming up. When I arrived the voice on my GPS announced,
“You have arrived at your destination.”
I was so thankful for this technology in that moment of arriving in the right place at the right time!
Immediately, the Spirit began to speak to me about the new time and season that His people are walking in. He reminded me that just like this new city is new and unfamiliar to me, it is the same for His sons and daughters in this new season. What was familiar before has changed/shifted and we must enter into a new level of complete dependency to get to our destinations.
God clearly said to me,
“Kathi, I am more reliable than any GPS system. I know the plans I have for you and the way you need to go in order to get there. You entered your destination when you said, ‘Your will and not my own.’ And I will faithfully instruct you every step of the way. Rest and move forward and know that when it is time to turn I will let you know. Be more familiar with My voice than other thing.”
As He spoke, peace flooded me. Just as I am able to relax while driving in this unfamiliar place, because I know that the voice on my GPS will tell me when and where to turn (and even reroute me if I miss a turn), so I can relax and enjoy the journey and new sites in this new spiritual season. He is and will continue to be the best navigation voice ever heard.
This is a key verse for the body of Christ at this time,
““Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19
Even if our family had not moved to a new city we would still have to become familiar with this “new thing” that God is doing. In some ways it may be easier for us since the lack of familiarity in our natural world has required that all of our senses shift to a new level of dependency and new instructions. Often prophetic people live out, in the natural, a picture of what is happening in the Spirit realm.
I have shared this story with my readers before but it is worth retelling. Just over a year ago our youngest daughter and her husband were going through a huge transition. They were very concerned about making the right decision. One night as I was praying for them the Lord spoke to me,
“Tell them that they cannot miss.”
Honestly, I immediately questioned if that was the voice of my God, but I know His voice and was sure that it was Him. I responded with a question,
“How is it that the CANNOT miss your will? Can’t they make the wrong choice?”
He then answered me by saying,
“Every son and daughter that has committed their plans to Me will have them established by Me. They cannot miss My will!”
Then the verse from Proverbs 16:3 came to me.
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
This is your key to walking in peace and rest in every season of your life. It is vital to commit your plans to the Lord, knowing that He will be faithful to establish them. It is also vital to posture your heart like Mary’s when she said,
“Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38
The Spirit of God is a trustworthy and faithful navigator. He will not lead you astray. He will take you step by step, turn by turn so that you arrive safely at your destination. Every prophetic word over your life has a journey attached to it and as you make your destination “His will” and start moving forward, He will direct and establish your steps.
Here is a promise from Psalm 37:3-7,
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him…”
Even if everything looks unfamiliar keep moving forward because He will bring to pass all the good plans that He has for you!
