A Remnant Army Is Arising

By Kathi Pelton

For the past several weeks I have been hearing this phrase in my spirit,

“Gideon’s remnant army is arising!”

In Judges 7 we read the story of Gideon’s army. The backdrop to this story is that the Israelites had done evil in the sight of the Lord so they had been handed over to the Midianites for seven years. The Midianites were extremely cruel and oppressed the Israelites so severely that they had taken to hiding in mountains and caves. The Lord summoned Gideon to call forth warriors to face the Midianites. As they prepared to fight them this is what the Lord said,

“You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.” Judges‬ ‭7:2‬ ‭

God was not only dealing with the Midianites that had oppressed the Israelites but He was also dealing with the false gods and worship of Baal that had been taking place within the Israelites. God was about to show that He alone is the deliverer and it is His power that sets the captives free.

Before we return to the story of Gideon’s army— is this story beginning to sound like a picture of what we are facing? A nation that has gone from “In God We Trust” to calling darkness “light” and evil “good.” Our nation flies rainbow flags that represent our turning to depravation and deception with great pride while they burn our own flag that once represented freedom and a nation that humbled themselves to trust in God. Cruelty and oppression is seen throughout our land against God’s people. We are censored and many are hiding in caves.

Back to the story—

After God reduced Gideon’s army to a mere 300 men (to face a vast and mighty Midianite force), He instructs them to go to their camp in the middle of the night only armed with clay pots that hide the light of their “blazing” torches and ram horns. These are not exactly the weapons of warfare we’d expect or the number of men needed to be victorious. God had reduced Gideon’s army from approximately 32,000 to a mere 300 men while the Midianite army was so vast that they were like the sands of the seashore— to many to count!

The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” Judges‬ ‭7:7‬ ‭

Here is what happens next,

“Gideon divided the 300 men into three groups and gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay jar with a torch in it. Then he said to them, “Keep your eyes on me. When I come to the edge of the camp, do just as I do. As soon as I and those with me blow the rams’ horns, blow your horns, too, all around the entire camp, and shout, ‘For the Lord and for Gideon!’”” Judges‬ ‭7:16-18‬ ‭

Gideon and his group of 100 men went out first to the edge of the Midianite’s camp and they blew their ram’s horns and broke their clay jars revealing the light of their torches. This signaled the two other groups of 100 men to follow.

“Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!” Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape. When the 300 Israelites blew their rams’ horns, the Lord caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords. Those who were not killed fled to places as far away as Beth-shittah near Zererah and to the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath.” Judges‬ ‭7:20-22‬ ‭

I believe that this story is a picture of what God will do in this hour. It appears as if the body of Christ is facing an enemy army that is so vast that they cannot be numbered. It also seems as though there is a mere remnant that has not departed in fear. What is left is but a “remnant.” Our weapons are absolute foolishness in the eyes of men but God will give us victory in the darkness of night with the blazing torch of Christ and the sound of the shofar and our shout, “For the Lord and for His Bride!”

The modern day Midianites will turn on themselves in fear and God will give a victory that no man can take credit for! It will not be by the strength of men but by the power of God!

It is interesting that every time I see the word “Midianite” the word, “Mediaites” replaces it. The media has become a vast army that oppresses God’s people. They lie, deceive and create a false narratives that controls the listeners. But watch as God gives victory over the “Media-ites!”

Our numbers do not matter! We may appear outnumbered but God and His heavenly hosts are with us. I hear the words from 2 Kings 6:16 declared over us,

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

We carry the blazing torch of truth and light in our left hand and the horn that sounds the declaration of “Yahweh!” in our right hand. The time is approaching where the clay jars will break and the torch will blaze for all to see. The time is coming for the sound of the ram’s horn and the shout of the remnant army to come forth that will grip the enemy’s camp with such fear that victory will come without ever entering into the battle.

There is a Civil War happening in the streets of America. It is the mobs against the cops, blue against red, law against lawlessness— but it is the remnant army that will receive the victory! Our voice will be heard and it will strike fear into the hearts of the wicked. The oppressor will not prevail and tyranny will not triumph! Gideon’s army will once again emerge with victory.
