Turn Your Gaze the Other Way

By Kathi Pelton

Last night as we were driving home from a wonderful outing, our daughter, who was sitting in the back seat on the driver’s side of the car, looked out the window to the east and said, “Wow, those are some really dark black clouds in the sky.”

Her husband, seated on the passenger side, looked to the west and said, “Wow, look at the brightness that the sun is showing in contrast to the darkness!”

We all looked at one of the most beautiful displays of the beginning of a sunset. The darkness of the clouds highlighted the sun and its streams of light in such a glorious way. It was truly breathtaking. (see pictures above)

I was immediately reminded of how we often look at life. From one perspective we see only black, angry clouds that appear to be announcing foreboding news. But, if we turn our gaze toward the Son, an entirely new message of truth and light changes our perspective. It is the message of hope, beauty, light and peace.

This week we, as a nation, turned our gaze to the east and saw the dark cloud of hatred, rage and massacre. It sent the foreboding message that evil resides and that darkness exists, leaving the entire nation with a cold shiver. How can such hate exist?

But some looked the other way: into the Son, and saw such light and beauty. Though many people could only focus on the darkness and attempt to define it, others began to turn their gaze into the heart of God in order to reflect the light that shines even brighter in a darkened sky.

I read message after message of blessing, prayers, love and light sent to the victims and their families. I read about acts of compassion and kindness that shone streams of light into grief that touched our nation. I saw the Body of Christ being light in the midst of darkness, and it was beautiful. It touched our nation and touched the heart of our Father.

This is not to say that there were not those who behaved badly or focused on the darkness and then tried to explain or describe it. I am sure that there were many. But for whatever reason I could only see the beauty of the compassion that was flowing from the heart of those who understand that we are called to grieve with those who grieve and be light in the darkness (Romans 12:15; Matthew 5:14-16).

Although I am describing the atmosphere in our nation the past few days, this is also a truth in our individual lives that will serve us well. When darkness seems to overshadow your sight, turn your gaze the other way. Turn to the Son where His light will shine even brighter in your darkened sky. As you look toward Him in the midst of your dark circumstance His light will stream into your view and change your whole perspective. Everything will change.

The interesting thing is that right after our family had spent a few minutes in awe of this glorious sunset, we once again looked to the east where the darkness had been so dark and a vibrant rainbow had appeared. It was the promise of hope and of life. It was a beautiful reminder that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, not violence nor death nor demons!

Romans 8:38-39 states,
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is a promise for Orlando, for those affected by this dark tragedy and for each one of us who have been created. No darkness can separate us from His love. He is promising Orlando an outpouring of His love. He is promising you that for every dark sky  you face, if you will turn your gaze, you will see His beauty and His promises will overcome the darkness as you behold His beauty.

His Goodness Will Pass Before You

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

He truly is our helper in times of need. Just as a father walks with his child, hand in hand, so our Heavenly Father walks hand in hand with His children. Psalm 121 goes on to say that He keeps our foot from stumbling and that He watches over us as we sleep (He never slumbers). He truly is a good, good Father.

I know that many of you are facing challenges; physical, financial, relational or even emotional. Although we do not always understand why we face these things, the one thing that I do know is that in every situation and through every trial He is good and that never changes. His goodness surrounds us through each step of our life’s journey.

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23:6

As I was meditating this morning on God’s goodness I remembered when Moses asked God if He would show him His glory and God answers by saying,

And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.“Exodus 33:19

God’s glory is His goodness and His presence with us. We live in the grip of His grace and compassion which is among the many attributes of His goodness. We lack no good thing in His presence but rather have all that we will ever need. As we look to the Lord for our help we are like Moses who prayed, “Show me your glory…” We then receive His goodness, grace and compassion.

In Psalm 16:11 David sings these words,
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

David was no stranger to trials and challenges but he continually brought them to the Lord. Again and again he reminded his soul that all that he needed was to be found in his presence. There is such joy in His presence! Joy drowns out every want and every earthly care. We must take the time to stop and focus our eyes above rather than on the temporary trial that wants to demand our undivided attention. Fix your eyes on the Eternal One and just as the old hymn says “…the things of this Earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace”. Or should we say, “in the light of His goodness and grace”?

You can enter into His goodness in the midst of your trials. There is joy and goodness to be found right where you are. Often we think that joy is found in the solution to our problems when it really is found in His presence in the midst of our “problems”. Worry robs us of time in His presence where we find His goodness and joy. Look up because that is where your help, your joy and His glory comes from.

I will close with this short excerpt from the Matthew Henry Commentary (from Psalm 16:11),

“Heaven is an inheritance; we must take that for our home, our rest, our everlasting good, and look upon this world to be no more ours, than the country through which is our road to our Father’s house. Those that have God for their portion, have a goodly heritage. Return unto thy rest, O my soul, and look no further.”

Awakening Sleeping Beauty

Kathi Pelton

I sat down to wait on the Lord and saw that todays date is the first of June; when I saw the date I also saw a vision of a beautiful princess awakening after a long sleep.

I asked the Lord what this meant and I heard this,

“The King’s princesses are awakening now and will arise in their true identity, authority and beauty.”

The name June means “YOUNG”. I feel that many young women will arise this month and come onto the scene as young Esthers; who will approach the King with boldness and then go forth in authority to see many of the enemy’s plans thwarted.

Then I saw a vision of the older women arising as well. They arose in a renewed strength, beauty and authority. A queens crown was placed upon their heads and as they stood up there was a sense of awe in all who saw them. These queens stood with great authority that demanded attention. It was like everything around them stood still in awe and waited with baited breath for what she would say.

I believe that this vision of the princesses speaks of the emerging of young women in ministry that will capture the attention of many, due to the way they represent the King; in a humble authority that reveals His beauty.

I also believe that the vision of the queens arising speaks of many of the older women coming into a greater authority and promotion in the Kingdom. They will carry an authority that demands a response. They will also be in great demand because of this mantel of authority that they are carrying.

The enemy has tried to keep these women down (like in the story of Sleeping Beauty where the jealous witch caused her to be in a death-like sleep) but the King has kissed them and awakened them.

June has always been the “month of brides” and this June is no different. The bride has been prepared and now is awakening on this first day of June, having been made ready to rule and reign in her royal authority.

I understand that the “Bride” Biblically is both male and female but this word is specifically for the daughters (women).

Get ready because Sleeping Beauty is about to awaken!

Personal Note:

Dear Ocean in the Desert Readers,

In the past six months our family has faces many trials due to the car accident on January 3rd. Due to Kathi’s injuries we have had to cancel all international travel and limit our domestic travels. Kathi meets with a surgeon this month to deal with two of her injuries. We are asking for prayer from our friends and ministry partners; for wisdom, favor and healing. Our livelihood comes from full time itinerant ministry therefore this car accident not only brought physical challenges but also financial challenges.

If you can pray for us at this time we would be so very grateful. We are believing for healing, more ministry partners who will come along in this season to support what God has us doing financially and more prayer partners. If you desire to partner with us please fill out the form below.

Thank You,

Jeffrey and Kathi Pelton

Fear is Being Put Under Your Feet!

Kathi Pelton

Fear is one of the most effectual tools that the enemy has used against God’s people. Fear feels like getting hit with a bucket of ice water; it comes in a moment but it’s effect lasts much longer. It’s lies and voices come to tell the believer that God will not keep His word or will not come through…or even questions you with words like, “Has God really said what you are standing in faith for??”

We should not be surprised by these tactics because the enemy has been using these from the beginning of mankind. The serpent asked Eve, “Did God really say not to eat from that tree?” But he continues to use fear because it has been so effectual for his demonic purposes.

We need not fear! We have a God that is seated high above all things here on Earth. He is above all, over all and everything that tries to exult itself against His truth is under His feet. Let’s look at Ephesians 1:18-23,

…I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Just take in this truth! Let the words like, “incomparably great power” and “riches of his glorious inheritance to his holy people” sink in. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work on your behalf. He is the head over everything that concerns you. Let these words lift you up to where He is and to where everything is under your feet as well. Fear does not exist in Heavenly realms.

Do you know that you too are seated in Heavenly places in our precious Jesus? Let’s look further in Ephesians to show you this truth,

Ephesians 2:4-10
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

This is your position and posture as you walk this Earth. Your body may be bound to this earthly soil but your spirit doesn’t have to be! You are seated in Heavenly realms where fear does not exist. The fears of this world are under His feet and under your feet. Remember that nothing can separate us from the love of God…NOTHING!!! Therefore, if God is for us than who can stand against us? It is time to allow your heart to be encouraged by letting your spirit lead rather than your soul. Our spirits understand our heavenly position in Christ but our souls often focus on what is seen rather than hold fast to the faith in the unseen.

We believe in God through faith (unseen}, we believe that we are saved (unseen), we believe that we will go to heaven one day (unseen) and yet somehow we begin to slip in our faith when it comes to the personal details of our lives like finances, relationships and the every day sort of things.

Today let God re-position you and re-align you so that your spirit (and His Spirit) is ruling over your soul and your body. Then you can begin to view your life from the Heavenly perspective and Heavenly realms where Christ Jesus rules in authority and power.

Your personal circumstances that challenge your faith are under God’s feet…or even better let the words from Ephesians 1 come upon the circumstances that are causing you to move from faith to fear. May “…the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand…” be exerted in your life and circumstances right now!

Begin to declare this over your life! Declare it over your family and declare it over God’s people! It is time to see faith arise and fear be put under your feet. Now begin to allow the mighty strength of God to be exerted on your behalf as you align with this truth!

Harassed by the Enemy? The Tables are about to Turn!

By Kathi Pelton

I am definitely a “glass half full” kind of person. I rarely focus on what the enemy is doing but prefer to find out what God is doing and keep my eyes and intentions fixed there. But sometimes the enemy just overplays his hand and you have to pay attention and say to God, “What’s up?”

2016 has been an interesting year for our family. As many of you already know, on January 3rd I was in a serious car accident with my husband and youngest son. I sustained multiple injuries that has left me in constant pain since that day, Then, just as we heard that I am most likely facing surgery my husband, Jeffrey, was hospitalized for a heart condition (he’s never experienced any heart problems before this). In the midst of all of this we are dealing with insurance claims, adjusters, having to cancel ministry trips and the financial strain that comes with that. All of this caused me to finally ask,

“What’s up God?”

Just as I asked God the question I remembered the word He spoke to me the day of our accident. I was laying in the hospital and heard the word, “Upgrade”. I truly believe that this is not only a word for our family but for all of those who have been being harassed by the enemy. Your obstacle will become your upgrade.
Then, after I remembered the word UPGRADE I felt the Spirit of God say,

“Every place that the enemy has been harassing My children will become the areas that I will give them both authority and anointing to see others set free.”

I believe that in the midst of dealing with physical pain and injury; our family will walk in a healing anointing to see others healed as we pray. I also believe that we will walk in an anointing to break the spirit of lack (or poverty spirit) off of many people as we overcome natural lack with supernatural faith.

Is the enemy harassing you? If so, in faith grab hold of this time where God turning the tables on the enemy. Allow His anointing to come upon you to see others set free of the very thing that you have been struggling with. I am determined to pray for the sick, injured and distressed more than ever before. Not just in church or conferences but on the street and in the marketplace.

It’s time to see the turning of the tables in your life. If you lack, give more and pray for those who need breakthrough in faith and authority. If your body has been attacked then pray for the sick and those in distress. If your relationships have been attacked then pray for those who need breakthrough in relationships. Whatever you need breakthrough in, pray for those who need the same breakthrough.

It is time to see the tables turn and see God glorified in every place that the enemy has touched your life.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” Luke 4:18

Abundance is Coming!

Kathi Pelton

We have moved into the new! This is a new season and the drought has ended. The spiritual soil is rich and prepared for the planting of seeds. I hear the Spirit saying that what is planted now, in the early hours of this new season and in this newly prepared soil will bring forth an abundant supply for you in the days to come.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 was highlighted to me for this time,

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

The Lord is so excited to bless your seed and see you abound in every area of your life. He has prepared the ground with rain and nutrients that will allow your seed to grow and thrive. This will be the best harvest ever.

He longs to prosper you in every way because He loves you. Begin to ask Him for wisdom regarding what you are to do with the abundance that He is going to release upon you.

Obedience is key to remain in the alignment of His Kingdom. I saw in my spirit what looked like a water pipe and it had a large kink in it causing the flow to be cut off. Then I saw the Lord unkinking this pipe and it began to flow freely and the water was distributed where it was intended to go. The. I heard the words,

“Obedience opens the way to abundance.”

Then Deuteronomy 28:1-14 came to me,

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.”

It is now the time to plant your seeds! The new season has come and the ground is prepared to receive your gift. Obey with a cheerful heart and with the confidence that there is great promises attached to each seed that you sow.

“But my God shall supply all of your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

The Prodigals are Coming Home

Kathi Pelton

I sat down to wait on the Lord this morning and immediately heard the words, “The prodigals are coming home.”

As I heard the words I saw a picture of young men and women who have been in a battle and this battle was between what they knew and what they think thought they wanted. I saw them rage against their perceptions of God, rage against religion, rage against control and rage against conformity. But in that rage they had created their own destinies that were leaving them empty and angry.

Then, as if a gentle breeze came upon them I saw it blow away the darkness and the truth of the love of God settled upon them like a warm blanket. The raging ceased, the wrong perceptions were corrected and the independent spirit broke off of them. This revelation ushered them into true relationship with God. These prodigals were freed and filled in a moment’s time.

As this happened I began hearing the words from Zechariah 3 that talk about Joshua the High Priest. I turned there and read these words,

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.”

Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.”

Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by.

The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua: “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.

I realized that God was calling these ones to Himself, rebuking the Accuser from their lives and changing their garments. Then He was calling them into realms of authority in His Kingdom. Their change will be that radical. They will be called, be changed and be commissioned and the old will become new.

Begin to thank the Lord for their salvation and their healing because it has already been planned and sealed with love. No longer plead for them but praise Him for them and for what He is about to do. Just when it looks the darkest God comes and brings the light that leads them home. Once they return to Jesus they will be filled to overflowing with His Holy Spirit and nothing will stop them because they will be compelled by love to go into all the world to see sons and daughters come home to their Father.

Personal Note:

As most of our readers know; our family was in a serious car accident on January 3rd. Kathi sustained injuries that are still present today. Though she began to travel for ministry again in March the doctors have said that surgery will be required on two torn muscles in both her left and right shoulders. They also believe that she not only fractured a disk in her back but may have herniated a disk as well. This has left it very difficult to sit for long periods of time which traveling requires. They have encouraged her to stop all travel because it is causing nerve damage. We are trusting for God’s divine intervention and healing but are also moving forward with what doctors have instructed. As a family and as a ministry we need your help during this time.

If you have been blessed by Kathi’s encouraging articles and our ministry please prayerfully consider giving a one time gift or becoming a ministry partner with a monthly gift of support. Thank you from our entire family for standing with us during this time.

It is Your Resurrection Time

Kathi Pelton

I woke up this morning with the strongest sense of God’s resurrection power coming upon His sons and daughters in order to resurrect His gifts and callings upon their lives. The enemy has gone to steal, kill and destroy the very heart of God’s children. These are the things that make them feel alive, their passions, their gifting, talents and even their very callings.

It has been as though many of His children feel like Joseph, thrown into a pit (or grave) to die without their dreams being fulfilled. But do not be dismayed; I see angels going to remove the stone from that grave and open the door of prison cells. He is resurrecting what you thought was lost forever. Your coat of many colors is being returned to you. which will allow you to walk in favor with both God and man. Humility is the key to walking with this coat and remaining in favor.

God is asking each one of us to silence our lips and repent for every word that we’ve ever spoken against our brother, sister, husband or wife. It is vital now to come into agreement in both word and action with God’s thoughts and plans for His people. Let us, even now, come out of agreement with the enemies accusations and into agreement with God’s plans and purposes. Let’s do this not only for those in Christ but for those yet to be in Christ!

This is how we are to combat the political spirit that has unleashed all sorts of judgements and accusations against men and women. There has been a great “character assassination” unleashed during this election year and we must be careful as God’s people to release character affirmation to stop this spirit from entering the Church. We will not agree or enter into character assassination against God’s elect.

This will be our part in partnering with God to resurrect His children. A great sound is being released even this day that is the sound of stones being rolled away and prison doors swinging open. Let us create a spiritual atmosphere of joy and acceptance (and agreement with God’s plans) as these individuals come forth.

Today is the day to turn the tide, to turn the table of judgement (accusation) into the banqueting table of love. It’s time to go against the grain of a society that points the finger of accusation and assassination and instead extend the hand of acceptance and life.

This is the day that the Lord has made…REJOICE! Resurrection is upon His house!

It’s Time to Cross the Threshold

download (2)

Kathi Pelton

Last November I was in Okinawa, Japan attending meetings with a number of global gatekeepers. During our time together an Asian leader shared a story.

The previous week, he had met with a remnant of believers from his nation, so that they might seek the Lord together for breakthrough into victory over the many obstacles they have faced for generations. Churches had fasted, prayed, worshiped and repented and yet they were not experiencing the breakthrough that they were seeking. This man told us how, in the midst of their meeting together, they became aware of several families among them who were in severe financial need. The entire group stopped everything that they were doing, laying down their agendas and schedules, and proceeded to take up an offering for these families. As the money was distributed to those in need, they received it with humility and gratitude, deeply touched and profoundly blessed.

Later, when they all regrouped and returned to prayer, crying out once again to the Lord corporately, everyone gathered sensed the witness from the Holy Spirit that they had received the breakthrough they were looking for.

As I listened to his story my spirit was moved and I heard:
“They crossed the threshold of Isaiah 58.”

It was like having water splashed in my face, awakening me to a vitally important truth that we often neglect as we contend for a corporate breakthrough. We forget that the body is made up of individuals, and we can find ourselves rejoicing in a corporate victory even as many individuals leave and return home feeling the weight of oppressing circumstances upon them.

Isaiah 58 is the chapter about God’s chosen fast. It begins with passionate words to those who have fasted, prayed and called out to God but to no avail:

“Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.
For day after day they seek me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.
‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’

These words echo the cry of those who had stood on behalf of that Asian nation and yet they were not experiencing breakthrough. But let’s read further:

“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.
Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.
Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the LORD?

The leader I mentioned told us how within his country, many churches competed with one another to see which was the biggest and best congregation. This led to leaders treating their people—and even their own families—in harsh and abusive ways as they strove to be the best. Leaders were dealing with divisions, offences and broken family relationships. They looked good on the outside but the “family” within their walls was broken and divided.

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

When these leaders turned their hearts to the needs of individual families, putting aside their public agenda to meet the financial need, they crossed a threshold from the old way of doing things into the new “true” fast. They stopped striving for breakthrough the way they always had, and in doing so, became the breakthrough for others. As they released the ones in need from the yoke of oppression, God released them from the yoke of oppression that was upon the whole. Already, the promises of Isaiah 58 are beginning to come upon them as pastors and other leaders have begun to humble themselves and repent for their pride and harshness, seeking to repair broken relationships and release new freedom among their people.

Maybe the poor are among us as an invitation into the corporate breakthrough. Will we remove the oppression from them, or simply ignore their need? Will we point a finger at them and wonder what they’ve done wrong to be under this yoke of oppression or recognize that—just possibly—they are under that yoke because we have not taken it off of them. Does all of our time and money go to building church walls and better ministries, or do we first stop and build a strong family? Maybe our promises are found in Isaiah 58’s wisdom….just maybe.

Give and It Shall Be Given Back to You

One of the first words the Lord gave me as we approached 2016 came from Luke 6:38:

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

The Holy Spirit emphasized this verse again and again to me. I knew that God was about to deal with the poverty spirit that presides in the Church. This spirit is rooted in fear and unbelief. We must take God at His word and truly know that to whatever measure we hold back, that creates the measure that is held back from us; but also, to the measure we give, so are overflowing blessings given back to us.

I often hear believers say that they can’t give because they do not have enough to meet their own needs, but this is the very thinking that often causes God’s children to not have enough. It is as we give that it is given back to us. Remember the story of the widow’s mite?

Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Her small gift was counted as more costly than those who had given large amounts out of their wealth.

Many years ago when my husband and I were living in another country with our four children we experienced something similar to this story. We were living on missions support and our monthly support base was much smaller than our monthly needs. One Sunday morning, as I sat in the morning service, I was feeling a great weight of oppression upon my shoulders as we only had a couple of dollars in coins left. We needed groceries and gas, and there were bills due. When it was time for the offering, I wished desperately to give something, even though I really wanted to save our last few dollars for milk. But, as the basket came nearer, I remembered the story of the widow’s mite, so when the basket was put into my hands I turned my wallet upside down and emptied all that I had. It was a very small amount and yet it was such a great sacrifice.

God is faithful, and we somehow got through that next week.

The next Sunday our church was filled with many visitors due to a large conference our fellowship had hosted. The pastor who was speaking that morning gave a brief message, and then called my husband and me up to the front. We were startled, and our surprise turned to astonishment as we heard him recount how he woke up that morning and the Lord told him that He wanted to pour blessings over us. Ushers set two chairs in the front of the church, and we were instructed to sit down. The pastor then invited everyone assembled to come forward and pour money over our heads. People began to empty their wallets over our heads (just as I had done the week before with the offering) and then people set cash in our laps and checks in our laps until it seemed as though we were covered. When the cash and checks were counted the amount was over $7000.00!

I gave my “widow’s mite” and in return, God sent hundreds of people to pour provision over our heads. “Give and it shall be given to you….running over, will be poured in your lap.”
It was literally poured in our lap!

Your Faith Will Be Perfected

God is perfecting our faith in this hour. When His people begin to move forth in faith and trust in all that He has said in His written spoken word, it creates momentum that begins to move us forward. But moving forward requires action on our part. On February 22nd (2/22) I heard the Holy Spirit say, “It is a 2:22 time.” I began to seek out what the 2:22 meant and was led to

James 2:22.

You see that his faith was working together with his works and his faith was perfected by works.

Here is the context of that portion of Scripture:
James 2:21-24

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? You see that his faith was working together with his works and his faith was perfected by works. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Now Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

Our faith is perfected when we obey by taking action on what the Lord has spoken. Many hear and believe, but do not add action, instead requiring proof through what they can see. Their attitude is “seeing is believing.” But we believe even before we see. We believe, therefore we act as a result of our faith. God is looking for the remnant of modern day “Abrahams” who put action and works to their faith.

When God called our family to move to another country, all we had was His word to us. Our house hadn’t sold, we didn’t have support raised and we only had temporary housing set up. But God made it clear that we were to go, and He would provide every step of the way, so we put action to our faith and moved. He was faithful to take care of us through the years. There were times we were afraid, but our fear was not because of unfaithfulness on His part but rather unbelief on our part.

Wrapping it Up

I believe we are in a kairos time, where we can cross over thresholds that have kept many of God’s sons and daughters from breakthrough. Here are vital keys for all of God’s people in this hour:
• Walking out the Isaiah 58 fast, where we remove the oppression off those in need;
• Giving generously according to Luke 6:38, which breaks the poverty spirit; and
• Moving forward in obedience to God’s direction as stated in James 2:22, putting our faith into action.

We are called to be light and salt. I am convinced these truths written in the Book of Life will bring both light and salt back to His body. They will be beneficial in breaking the orphan spirit, the poverty spirit and the despair of hope deferred off of many. We were created in His image and must reflect His image in our private and public lives. We must put works to our faith, be generous in our giving, give care to those who are oppressed and stop the pointing of the finger in accusation against those facing hardship.

The truth truly does set us free and His Word is truth.
