There Is Strength For The Weary

Kathi Pelton

As I was taking time in a garden to wait upon the Lord, I heard Him speaking these words,

“I give strength to the weary.”

As His people take time to cease from their constant busyness and sit with Him, He will increase their strength so that they will be set free from a deep weariness that produces powerlessness. The enemy is attempting to wear people down through distractions and busy activities but it is important to allow the Holy Spirit to order our steps and activities so that we have time for the One who renews our strength. It is in these “set apart” times that we are strengthened and refreshed as well as receive a reset (reordering) of our steps and the rhythm of our movements in life.

Remember that even God rested on the seventh day! People often do not know how to stop and rest. Waiting is a lost art and yet such a vital one. Waiting is not inactive but it is a discipline of actively and intentionally stopping the dictating demands of this world to allow our bodies, souls and spirits to be strengthened with power for the journey ahead. Just as a vehicle must stop to be refueled, so we must stop for the refueling of our spirits that nourish and restore our souls.

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:28-31

Exhaustion is not effective for relationship with God, family or for the peace that we personally need. We learn the beauty of trust that is formed in the secret place. We must learn to soar like eagles in the resting place and we must find the strength to walk and to run from the still places. As we take time to rest and wait we will be continually renewed and refueled. We will run the race with strength and effectiveness only as we take those moments to stop and allow Him to refill us.

These still moments are not about intercession or deep prayers but rather about taking time to wait. Listen to the birds singing, the breeze blowing, creations praise. You will find Him there.

He is waiting for you!

  1. I appreciate how you pointed out the connection between busyness and powerlessness. I used to think that I was the only one affected by my busyness–I brought exhaustion on myself–it is so much more far reaching than that. Thank you for sharing what God’s Spirit gave to you.
