Fear can cause such chaos in lives. It often is the trigger that causes people to make rash decisions, to leave a relationship (or to enter one unwisely), to self-protect, to fight or take flight, or to attempt to control their lives.
Fear is one of the enemy’s favorite weapons against mankind. He eagerly visits many forms of fear upon people throughout their lives in order to create reactions (triggers) that become “land mines”; then individuals learn to reorder their steps to avoid these explosive traps. Many people literally plan their steps to avoid triggers and yet the entire time they are allowing fear to narrate and navigate every step.
Are you one of those people who has fear ruling and dictating your life? If so, take hope, because God is about to remove the ruler called “Fear” from the throne of your life.
It is important to understand that the spirit of fear comes in many different forms that the enemy has custom-designed just for you. The triggers that these fears bring become familiar; creating a “cause and effect” that become ongoing negative cycles in your life. These fears cause a reaction that affect decisions, and the direction of your life subtly becomes aligned with demonic agendas that are contrary to God’s plans for your life.
Here are some tools that God has given in order to come out from under the rulership of fear:
• Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of the triggers that cause you to change your steps or actions to accommodate fear. Repent—turn away—from allowing fear to rule over your life and invite the Lord to take His rightful place in those areas that fear has held you captive.
• Stop allowing fear to narrate your life. When you feel those familiar fears come knocking at the door of your mind and emotions (soul), immediately stop and renounce partnership and agreement with fear. Then ask the Holy Spirit to replace it with the “fear of the Lord.”
“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” 2 Corinthians 7:1
The fear of the Lord is a positive fear rather than a negative fear. It is to chose the posture of living in reverence to God and all of His ways, causing us to experience the blessings of abundant life. As we chose the fear of the Lord over the rulership and idolatry of all other fears we receive freedom from the paths that have led many away from true holiness. His holiness cleanses us from the defilement that the fear of man and the “fear of fear” have brought upon many.
For the believer, the fear of the Lord is their true protection. It protects them from the sinful nature that once ruled over their lives and it protects them from the weapons that the enemy forms against them.
Psalm 91 begins with these words,
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” Psalms 91:1-2
The fear that the enemy brings is designed to cause the believer to leave the refuge of God and return to the rulership of the fears that led them away from trust in God alone. This fear will defile the believer and cause them to be a clear target for the weapons that the enemy has been forming against them.
There is a promise for those who live in the fear of the Lord and place Him alone as their refuge,
“If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.” Psalms 91:9-11
Today is the day to begin to live in the fear of the Lord. The spirit of fear has been ruling over too many of God’s people for far too long. It is time to exchange the fears that have chased you down like a deer being hunted for the fear of the Lord that provides protection, purity, peace, and holiness.
He is waiting to be invited into the places that the negative fears have imprisoned you. He will set you free as you posture your life in reverence and absolute trust in Him alone.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love casts out fear…” 1 John 4:18 (a)
Let His perfect love have full reign in your life today.
