Oceans in the Desert

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭

This morning my “verse of the day” once again struck my spirit with such joy because it carries such freedom! Years ago the Lord spoke the words to me, “No regrets— only repentance!” The Godly sorrow that leads to repentance brings freedom from guilt, shame and regret. God disciplines His sons and daughters; He doesn’t punish them. Punishment lingers on and brings regret but God’s discipline invites us into a procession of freedom that goes from “Godly sorrow” to repentance to freedom. It sets us free to change and not repeat the same action.

I always ask Holy Spirit to replace my human sorrow (which often involves feeling sorry for myself, beating myself up, feelings of regret, defeat and shame) for true Godly sorrow that takes my hand and leads me out of captivity and into freedom. It puts me on the right path and takes me off the “hamster wheel” of repetitive sin and regrets.

You can’t make Godly sorrow come; you must ask for it. It is a work of the Spirit. Often believers will spend years in religious regret which robs them of joy and enslaves them to human effort rather then asking the Spirit of the Lord for the gift of “Godly sorrow.”

“Not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit” says the Lord.

We have entered a time of great deliverance from religious regrets. That has been a spiritual Egypt for so many with a hard taskmaster ruling over their souls. Some have spent their lives in this land of regret. But true Godly sorrow, which lasts but a day and sets the captives free will come upon those that have been oppressed with guilt, regret and condemnation…which is not repentance! Your Deliverer has come to set you free!

If you’ve been caught in this cycle (even for decades) then exchange your human sorrow for Godly sorrow. Ask the Holy Spirit for a divine and supernatural exchange. Shake off religious regrets and allow the sorrow that will lead you to salvation and freedom!

I speak over you what the Spirit spoke over me many years ago, “NO REGRETS— only repentance!”
