While I was in worship and prayer yesterday I was suddenly encircled in the most intimate and powerful embrace I’ve have ever experienced— which immediately had me undone. As this happened I saw the “overcoming arms of Jesus” outstretched upon the cross with torn flesh and pierced hands that flowed with blood. I heard the words, “The Lamb has overcome.” Then, suddenly, I found those very arms around me, holding me in an embrace that was releasing love, mercy and overcoming authority into my life.
“But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.” Psalm 3:31
His “overcoming arms” around me became like a shield— my glory— and it lifted my head with renewed confidence and courage. I immediately felt an inner-rest come upon me only came through all that He had overcome and defeated. I was no longer weary from all that I saw that needed to be defeated. It became the tangible reality of Zechariah 4:6,
“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” Says the Lord of hosts.
His Spirit that is in me carries His overcoming power and authority. His Spirit was allowing me to come into the embrace of the overcoming arms that paid the price for me and defeated sin and death. He overcame all the world! It was like being embraced by the words, “For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son.” (John 3:16).
A supernatural inner rest washed over me and through me like a cleansing flood of His finished work. I was brought into the arms of the author and finisher and all striving washed away.
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
Rest in Christ can be present even in the ongoing activity of the believer because it is an inner-rest that goes with you and silences demands while putting an end to striving. It wraps you in the victory and confidence of His finished work as His Spirit works through a yielded vessel. Striving ceases, fears are calmed, demands are silenced and a canopy of love comes over you like the wing of a mother hen over her chicks.
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:41
He is in us, around us, before us and behind us. We have overcome because the Overcomer lives within us. The world may scream loud and demand an audience but the blood of Jesus speaks a better word and defeated the voices of threat and accusation. So we can rest in Him— our Risen King.
“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:51
Come and find rest in the arms of the One who has overcome. Yield to His arms of love that will anoint you with His overcoming authority and seat you in Heavenly places where you will reign with Him forever.
Because He has overcome— you have overcome! Victory is yours.
“To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.” Revelation 3:21
