Oceans in the Desert

Rare is the time that I am not filled with great courage when I am exalting the Lord! Singing His name and declaring His nature releases an infusion of confident assurance and fearlessness as I am intimately connected to who He is. Worship will lift me from the earthly realm, with all that weighs me down, to the heavenly place that I was created for.

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6

We are seated in heavenly places, united with Christ! The greatness of the Lord is united to us and dwells within us. The God who created the heavens and the earth, who put the stars in the sky and keeps all of the universe working together is united to us. Worship ushers us into that reality and experience. His power and goodness never leaves us or forsakes us but worship causes our souls to join with heavenly truth and from there we declare, “Great are you Lord!”

I think that we often forget the unfathomable and surpassing greatness of our God throughout the hours of the day as we get busy with the mundane tasks. We go out into the world more aware of our weakness then we are of His greatness. There is not a single day, let alone a single second that we are not united to the One who sits upon the throne of grace. All power, all honor, all majesty and all that is in heaven and earth belongs to Him.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth…”Matthew 28:18

Yet, this God who holds all creation in His hands and whom all authority belongs to also cares about every detail of our lives. It is beyond comprehension to imagine this truth. How can His love span such vast horizons and still reach down to personally connect with every detail of our individual lives? It leaves me undone to realize that He values me so greatly. It causes me to release the words, “Great are you Lord!” Trying to understand this kind of love is beyond what our greatest moments of imagination can fathom. Our understanding of human love cannot touch this kind of agape love.

How is it that we are intimately united to this King of Glory? Why do we still tremble at the storms of life? How can it be that we still doubt or question if He sees us or knows our needs? This God who holds all things together also holds our lives His hands. I stand in awe in the face of such love and kindness.

Not only does He have authority over all but through this uniting with Him we too have authority. We have His Spirit living in us! This is the very power that raised Jesus from the dead and we are united to the power of His Spirit as well.

That is why we shout, “Great are you, Lord!”. That is why can be brave, courageous and strong…it is because we have been united to Him!
