Are You Needing Wisdom?

by Kathi Pelton

Many in the body of Christ are in times of transitions that involve decisions that require wisdom. We always want to walk in the wisdom and counsel of the Holy Spirit as we proceed forward. During those times of life that require supernatural wisdom and understanding, I love to pray the scriptures because then I am praying from a “starting place” of foundational truth.

As we know from Proverbs 16:9, “We make our plans, but it is the Lord who determines our steps.” I always begin by committing my plans to the Lord and then asking Him to determine, order and establish my steps according to His wisdom and will.

From there I pray that the Spirit of the Lord would “fill me with the knowledge of His will with ALL spiritual wisdom and understanding.” The words from Colossians 1:9-11 perfectly express the longing of my heart regarding every step taken and decision made,

“…asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy…” Colossians‬ ‭1:9-11

Often during times of transition the warfare can increase; especially against our minds and emotions. The unknown can cause us to fear making a wrong decision and the enemy always uses fear as an open door for harassment. The end of the verses above say, “…be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might…” Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the strength that comes from the Lord’s glorious might!

Since the enemy uses fear as an entrance point to harass men and women with confusion and insecurities; I turn the tables and use fear against the enemy! I turn to the “fear of the Lord.”

Proverbs 1:7 says,

“Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”

Ask for the fear of the Lord because that is your foundation. Walking in the fear of the Lord requires humility. You must humble yourself before the Lord and lay down human wisdom in exchange for true knowledge, wisdom and even discipline that submits to adjustments that need to be made in our lives. The fear of the Lord will displace the fears sent by the enemy to thwart your place as part of those who are advancing the Kingdom of God and declaring His good news to a world in great need. The world is looking for wisdom but it is looking in all the wrong places. As your life becomes a testimony of the fruitfulness that comes forth as you walk in His ways; we will see the world turn to the Church for wisdom and counsel.

Last, never lean on your own understanding! This will cause you to measure your decision according to sight and the standards of the world. Human understanding does not take into account the supernatural power of God to do the impossible. Proverbs 3:5-7 says,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”

He will make your paths straight as you trust Him with all your heart and acknowledge Him in all your ways!

If you have decisions to be made, steps to be directed or the need for wisdom, start by aligning your prayers upon the foundation of His Word! Then watch as your paths are made straight and your steps are ordered of the Lord.
