Last year a friend sent this photo of the still waters of the harbor where she lives and wrote the words,
“Be still and know that I am God.”
She did not know that the night prior I had gone to bed with a bit of a wrestle in my soul against concerns that were out of my control. Whenever this “wrestle or stirring” in my soul begins to occur (disrupting peace) I become aware that the enemy seeks to steal my peace, my stillness (posture of trust and abiding in His faithfulness), and create striving. The enemy comes to make waves in order to block the view of Jesus.
When Jesus called Peter to walk to Him upon the water, they were on a stormy sea with waves that would have easily hindered Peter’s view of the Lord’s outstretched hand. As the waves blocked his view, fear set in and Peter began to sink beneath the raging sea. This is such a clear illustration of what the enemy tries to do with the storms of life and the waves of circumstances.
The One who calms the seas calls us to come out from the natural into the supernatural (walking on the water of faith) but the one who stirs the waters of fear will always try to block our view so that we will sink under the powerful force of the natural (seen) realm so that we will abandon faith for fear.
God speaks over the storms of life, “Peace be still”
He speaks over your life, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Our faith in this truth calms the storms of our souls and takes us into the supernatural ability to walk upon the water. Faith makes a pathway in which we can walk out to take hold of the outstretched hand of the One who has authority over every natural, created thing.
“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:6
Do not fear! If God is for us then who can stand against us? Who can stop the Lord Almighty? No one…not one!
Today, speak in faith to your soul, “Be still.” Walk out upon the natural storm that surrounds you and do not sink under the waves that rage with fearful intimidations of doom. Take hold of the outstretched hand of Jesus who will lift you above the natural into the supernatural stillness, peace, and rest of abiding in the shadow of His wing.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.””
Psalms 91:1-2, 4-16
