You Are Held

Kathi Pelton

There are seasons in life where you spiritually feel so alive and full of the power of the Holy Spirit. In these wonderful seasons, God’s presence feels so near and is tangibly experienced.

Then there are seasons in life where you feel spiritually dry and almost like His Spirit has departed from you. In these difficult times God feels far away and you seemingly stop experiencing his presence.

Yet, the Bible assures us that God never leaves or forsakes us. It makes it clear that He never changes and that his love endures forever. So what is happening during times of feeling spiritually dry?

Though I cannot answer that question completely, I can tell you that there are benefits to the dry seasons.

That benefit is that you get to apprehend the promises written in his Word in a level of faith that is not emotionally driven.

If you are building a new home— the pouring of the foundation is not exciting but it is absolutely necessary for the house to stand. It is far more exciting to see the walls go up, the roof put on and all of the finishing touches being added.

It’s a bit like pouring and securing your foundation when you go through dry seasons. It’s not exciting like getting new flooring or new furniture but over the years the foundation must be secured and cracks filled. If not, your entire structure is compromised.

In these dry seasons— check your spiritual foundation. Go to the Word of God and receive what is written as your absolute truth and foundation even when you feel and see nothing.

This is where your foundation of faith is strengthened and secured. It’s not a fun process but it is a necessary process in spiritual development.

If feelings and emotions are your foundation rather than truth, you are susceptible to falling when times of shakings come. Foundational truth must be what holds up your emotional experiences.

I lived in California most of my life and am very familiar with the need to have a foundation that can withstand the ground beneath it shaking. It has been a spiritual lesson for me to carry through different seasons of my life.

Remember— God is always with you! His love endures every stage and season of your life. He does not withhold his promise from you nor his love.

You are held by him in every step of this life. He will not break his covenant promises to you.

If you are in a dry place, get out your Bible and read his truths aloud over yourself. Secure your foundation with raw faith that comes merely from believing in his covenant promises.

Here is some truth to add to your foundation,

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” Psalm‬ ‭139‬:‭7‬-‭12‬ ‭

His hand is holding you even in the darkness of the dry season. You are held!

Thank you for sowing into this ministry and into your personal breakthrough.
