Oceans in the Desert

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed…” Romans 4:18

There are times in our lives where we look all around us and the landscape looks like, “against all hope.” But our faith and belief was never meant to be built upon natural circumstances— but on God, “who brings life to the dead and calls into being things that are not.” (Romans 4:17)

Abraham had every reason to NOT believe— his wife was barren, her womb was dead— and God had not only promised him a son but that through his offspring he would be the father of many nations. Yet, at a hundred years old, he did not waver in his belief regarding God’s promise. Against all hope, he believed.

You may be looking around at your life and it reads like a billboard that says, “There’s No Hope”. Remember, your hope is not in what you see but in what God has spoken.

His promises are faithful and true. They do not expire with age or physical limitations. They are “yes and amen” day by day, year by year and generation to generation.

If you feel like the promises of God over your life have come to the point of natural hopelessness— then it is time to tell your soul to believe again!

Against all hope— BELIEVE.

Abraham was considered righteous because he believed. Your faith and belief in God may make you look foolish before men but it makes you righteous before God. As a righteous man or woman— do not waver in your belief in God’s promise over your life. Far too often we see even the righteous waver due to natural circumstances but you have the helper— the Spirit of God living in you to gird you up even when the womb of your promise is dead.

God is the resurrector of dead wombs!

Whether it is a natural womb, like Sarah’s, or a womb of promise that has yet to be filled— God brings life to the dead and calls into being things that are not (Rom. 4:17).

Maybe your spiritual womb has been dead so long that you don’t even remember the promise of life that was given to you long ago? You can ask the Lord to speak his personal promises over your life back to you once again. Each of you not only is an heir of every promise of God written in the scriptures, but he has personal promises over every one of you.

If you have carried those promises near to your heart and still hold them in faith— do not waver. They will come to pass. If you don’t know the personal promises over your life then ask the Lord to reveal them to you and trust (without wavering) that he will call “what is not into being!”

Let us be a people that “against all hope, believes!” Our father of the faith, Abraham, is still leading us by his example of “the righteous shall live by faith.” He saw his miraculous promise fulfilled and his wife’s womb resurrected to life so that she could bring forth the son that was promised to them.

Let’s also remember what Jesus spoke to Martha (Lazarus’ sister) as she stood before her brother’s grave; he speaks the same words over your life today,

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

If he can raise a man who has been dead for four days to life then he can resurrect the womb of your promise back to life. If he can give an old women with a dead womb a son, then he can give birth to the promise that you have hoped for. Do you believe this? Do not waver.

Today is your day to “Against all hope, believe!”
