As we move into the chilly days of fall and winter there tends to be a greater desire to experience the “comforts of home”. A crackling fire, a warm blanket, dim lights, a hot beverage and the comfort of being surrounded by those we love. Although we get precious moments like these that bring great comfort, the majority of our time is spent working, preparing meals, driving in traffic, cleaning and paying bills.
As I sat down to spend time with the Lord this morning I remembered a photo of our home from a couple of years ago. It was taken as we walked into our front door after returning from a long ministry trip. The warmth and light of “home” (see picture above) was almost overwhelming. It was one of those moments that catches you off guard and immediately fills you with welcome, comfort and love.
This morning as I sat down to be with Jesus I saw Him in this very same way. The door of His heart was open and inside was beauty, light, comfort and love. Peace flooded me as I stepped inside of the secret place where I could rest in His arms. Within His heart there was no demands, no lack, no burden…just warmth and beauty. Today He wasn’t opening up with any expectation except to be together.
Though there are times where the secret place becomes a place where we share His burdens through deep intercession and receive wisdom and strategies for the days ahead; there are also days that He merely invites us to sit before the fire of His love and drink of His lovingkindness. He sets a meal of kindness for us to feast upon and He blankets us with comfort that remains; surrounding us with the welcome of heaven.
For me, today is one of those time. I see Him inviting you into His heart where a “living room” awaits full of the comforts of His love. He will be your holy escape from the chill of the day and He will warm you with all of His goodness. He is not just a comforter for those who grieve but He is also the comforter that gives us a place of home and rest from the busy and fast paced world that we live in.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
He is inviting you today to “Come in.” The door of His heart is open.
