Draw Near

By Kathi Pelton

I hear the Lord’s whispering to His Bride today saying, “Will you draw near to Me?”

Life pulls at us to give our time, energy and focus to everything but stillness. It truly is the greatest wrestle for people. Taking time daily to be still and draw near to God is immediately met with a battle of distraction in the mind and heart.

I often begin my “drawing near time” by praying out of Philippians 4:7,

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

His peace comes to guard my heart and mind from distraction so that I can draw near.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” James 4:8(a)

To draw near to someone takes intentionality. When I was a young mom in ministry, I had to set days aside to draw near to my children, to my husband and to my source of life, Jesus.

There was the constant “need of others” vying for my time and attention. It took time and a maturing process but I had to learn that I was not other’s “Savior” and that when I drew away from the crowds to draw near to God or my family, I was not neglecting or abandoning the call of God upon my life or my commitment to others.

There were times that I faced criticism and judgements when I drew back but even Jesus knew when to leave the crowds to draw near to His Father or to His family (the disciples).

A number of months ago I heard the Lord calling me to “come away with Him to draw near to Him for an extended time.” It was at a time that my entire family was leaving to go to an important family event in another state. I wrestled with the invitation to “draw near” because I knew that this time with our extended family was a once in a lifetime experience. But the Spirit was persistent and continued to whisper an invitation to “stay behind and draw near to Him.”

Finally, I spoke with my family and they quickly blessed me to stay behind. When they drove away I went directly to my bedroom with my Bible and my journal to lay down on the floor to draw near to God.

Over the next three days God drew near to me in deep, constant intimacy. As I accepted His invitation to draw near to Him, He drew near to me with profound presence, amazing affections, deep intercession, refreshing and renewal. This time truly reset my life and my intimacy with Him.

The same is true with my husband and children. I tend to be very “single focused” and yet my life is always juggling a hundred different things. When I am doing a task it usually gets all of my attention and focus. This can be a good trait but for my family, who also needs my attention, it can be challenging. My kids (who are all young adults now) have taken to calling me by my full name (rather than Mom) when they can’t get my attention. When I hear the name, “Kathleen” by one of my kids it somehow jolts me out of my ultra focused state and back onto them.

I never want Jesus to have to work hard to get my attention off the work of the Kingdom and back onto the King.

Intimacy is forged as we get still and draw near. I am a very early riser because it is in the quiet of the dawn that I draw near to Him. Yet even then I must be intentional to not allow distractions to draw my mind and heart away.

“…fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

We must take time to fix our attention on Jesus. We are being invited to draw near and give our undivided attention and affections to the One who gave His all for us.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:1-3

It is vital to set our minds upon Jesus and intentionally devote time to drawing near to Him. It is then that you will find that He draws near to you in ways that sustain you, renew you, refresh you and draw you into abundant living.

He’s whispering an invitation to you, “Will you draw near to Me today?”

As you say yes, know that He will draw near to you!

Faith, Finances and Fruitfulness

by Kathi Pelton

Today I was reminded of the story in John 6 of the boy who offered his lunch (loaves and fish) to the Lord. It is such a beautiful example of what God can do with our offering.

“‘There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many? Jesus said, ‘Have the people sit down.’ Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, ‘Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost. ‘ So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, ‘This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!’” John‬ ‭6:9-14‬ ‭

The offerings that we bring often feel insignificant compared to the great need that is before us. But when all that we have (both small and large) is placed into the Lord’s hands, He blesses it and multiplied it to feed the multitudes. Not only that—there is always more than enough with leftovers that exceed the original offering. In this story the boy who offered his lunch not only still ate and was “filled” but I believe that this increase was counted to his credit! Not only were the people’s hunger satisfied but the miracle of multiplication revealed Jesus to the masses. They believed!

This seemingly small act of faith on the part of this boy brought increased fruitfulness not only for him but for the multitudes. It is still revealing Jesus today and increasing the faith of those who merely have “a lunch” to offer.

My husband and I have been in full-time ministry for many years. The majority of our time in ministry we have been supported by those who the Lord prompted to support us financially. On an emotional level this was a hard adjustment for us when we started on that path. We had been used to being the ones who supported others and suddenly needed to be supported. When God called us to live in another country to oversee a house of prayer, we had to “go” and trust that the Lord would bring generous givers to surround our lives as we gave our “yes” to His call. We quickly had to learn absolute trust and thanksgiving in times of plenty and times of hunger.

Throughout the years of living upon the support of others (amazing and beautiful people!), we had to come to terms with the truth that Paul speaks of in Philippians 4 regarding his own ministry and support, when he writes, “Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.”

Our hearts, like Paul’s, have always been to give our all and give our “yes” to all that the Lord asks of us (whether giving or going). Though there are times of great struggle and sacrifice, we know that He is worthy of it all. We have come to understand through these verses in Philippians 4 that the burden or weight that we often felt as people supported us was wrong thinking. Let’s look at what Paul says about those who supported him and the work he was doing,

“Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Philippians‬ ‭4:14-20‬ ‭

God equally credits the fruitfulness of Paul’s ministry to those who stood in the place of support. Although Paul was the mouthpiece (and he was credited for that), those who offered financial support gave “an acceptable and pleasing offering to the Lord” and it was credited to them for all the fruit that came forth.

It is a partnership! One is not greater than the other because one cannot exist without the other. I live in the confident assurance that those who give are benefiting from the fruitfulness that comes from the work of those they give to. In light of this truth we all can focus on the work before us and pray for the increase of Kingdom fruitfulness; being confident that those hard working supporters are being blessed equally as much. The reward for the one who goes and the one who gives is the same!

I am sharing this because there is so much misunderstanding about this partnership and about the role of those who give and those who go. Often people hold back because they feel as though they give with no return. Or they give only a small measure because they feel as though all the fruit goes to those who are the mouthpiece or instrument of “going.” But according to Paul, he is able to “seek the fruit that was increased because of those who gave!” There must be those who plant the seed and those who water the seed. God sees both with equal importance, impact. and honor.

The one that “goes” and the one that “gives” are rewarded the same and credited for the increase of fruitfulness. Both take a posture of faith and live by faith even in two different roles.

I pray that this understanding takes the pressure off those who go and adds a blessing upon those that give. I have been in both roles; those who have given and those who have gone, and one was not above the other or more honorable than the other. No matter what role the Lord has called you to stand in; the increase of fruitfulness is credited to you. It is a pleasing sacrifice that will bring the increase of fruitfulness upon your life as well.

“MAYDAY, MAYDAY!!”

by Kathi Pelton

On May 1, 2002 my very first word was published on The Elijah List. This word was a “breaker-word” for our lives and ministry. As I awoke this morning, May 1, 2019 the Spirit reminded me of it and said, “Kathi, this is a full circle moment and that word is for now once again.”

Here is the word…a then and now word!

MAYDAY! MAYDAY!” May 1, 2002

On April 30 the Lord told me to pay attention to May Day which was May 1st. I watched and listened all that day but nothing significant seemed to happen.

—————————

THE SHIP, TOSSED VIOLENTLY

—————————

Then last night I was taken into a vision in the middle of the night to a ship that was being tossed violently upon a very turbulent sea. It was very dark and the fog bank was so thick that you could not see a foot in front of you. As I was taken closer to the ship I could see that it had been storm tossed for some time now.

This ship was lost at sea. There was no way for the crew to find its way back to where it had come and yet it couldn’t see ahead to know where it was going. It seemed to be at the mercy of the storm which looked as though it would never end.

Nothing was secure upon this ship, everything was being tossed into the sea except the crew. Then I was taken into the ship where I saw one of the crew on the communications radio saying over and over, “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday!” I heard no response.

———————————–

THE LORD WAS ASKING ME TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE DISTRESS CALL

———————————–

At this point I came out of the vision and realized that the Lord wasn’t asking me to pay attention to “May Day” (The date, May 1st) but He was asking me to pay attention to the distress call, “Mayday, mayday!”

I asked the Lord what this meant and He told me that many lives and ministries had recently been in the middle of a storm. Their vision had been blocked and their lives and plans tossed upon the rough sea. They had used up every means of self effort to find their way back to safety but the storm and lack of vision had left them lost at sea.

The Lord said that He has heard our distress calls. He has heard our call to Him, “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday!”

—————————-

RESCUE HOST IS ON THEIR WAY

—————————-

Though we do not yet see it, a rescue host is on their way. God has commissioned a great rescue host to come to us with all the provision to get us to safe harbor. This harbor will not be where we started because we can not go back there but it will be a new place, with new ships, new cargo, new crew members, new scenery, new life.

It was necessary to have everything tossed into the sea in order for the “New Order” to come. We have new orders and this host will bring to each one of us those orders. We have new passages that we have not known about but these will also be revealed to us.

We will have new vision, clearer vision.

We have new provisions that are on there way, provisions that we have not known of because they are not coming by “our efforts” but by His grace and help.

Our distress call has been heard…help is on the way.

Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of man plans his ways but the Lord orders his steps.”

“Make Me Holy!” The Deep Cry Coming From His Sons and Daughters

Kathi Pelton

There is such a deep work that the Holy Spirit is doing in lives at this time. I have honestly never felt an absolute longing to be “holy as He is Holy.”

1 Peter‬ ‭1:15-16‬ ‭says,

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.””

I feel emptied of “me” in so many ways. Everywhere I go I talk to believers that are experiencing the same thing. It is a desperation to be one with Him; to be purified from anything that has exulted itself above Him or diminishes His beauty and faithfulness from being displayed in any way.

This is not a work that can be done in the flesh or even a desire that can burn within us apart from the fire of the Holy Spirit igniting it. It merely requires a willingness to yield to the work of the Spirit who searches our hearts.

There is a yearning from deep within many of His sons and daughters that cries out the words from Psalm 139:23-24

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Do not fret over the sense of being emptied or become overwhelmed by the experience of deep calling out to deep. You are not alone in this process. Our souls are being purified for the sake of living as Jesus lived; to only do the will of His Father.

Invite His fire to come upon you and give Him permission to purify your heart. The end result will be “oneness with Christ” and “being holy as He is holy.” He is worthy of it all and worthy of us all.

“Jesus, have your inheritance in our lives and in all the nations.”

All Hail King Jesus

Kathi Pelton

These are the words that have been repeating in my thoughts and heart all morning, “All Hail King Jesus!”

I had a vision on Sunday during our worship service of a glass ceiling shattering. Before it shattered I saw the ceiling and upon it was the images of our faces. I asked Him, “Why are our images creating a ceiling between heaven and earth…between us and You?”

Immediately He began to show me that His people tend to stop at “our personal limitations.” In other words, we limit Him based on our image rather than His. I began to allow my worship to exalt Him for who He is and all that He is worthy of. As I did He took me above my limitations (and the limitations of this earthly realm) into the limitless image and infinite goodness of who He is. As this happened the ceiling shattered and it became an open heaven.

He was being exalted for who He is not for what I see of Him in me or even who I understand or perceive Him to be. It’s difficult to put into words because it was like going into the depths, heights and width of His image and His love that has no beginning and no end. In this place the sound that I experienced declares, “All Hail King Jesus!”

It was a place of greater surrender and yielding to worship and enthroned Him in a limitless place; a place that crowns Him above all else.

Because this was and is a work of the Spirit, I encourage you to ask the Spirit of the Lord to usher you into this place of worship and surrender that breaks any ceiling that has been created due to your own self image or any earthly understanding. It is time for an open heaven!

He is worthy of it ALL! As He is enthroned upon every part of us; our families, our cities, our nations and our worship, we will see how He is given back what is rightfully His. He will be Lord of all and we will not only sing, “All Hail King Jesus” but we will see the world begin to have their eyes open to who He really is. A limitless, infinite and eternal God who “so loves the world!”

#GivingTuesday is Here

Today is #GIVINGTUESDAY which is your opportunity to give a yearly gift to a non-profit organization that you believe in. Will you prayerfully consider giving your yearly gift our ministry.

Each year #GIVINGTUESDAY comes the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday where huge amounts of money are spent on gifts for ourselves and our loved ones. But then comes Tuesday which is a “Give back” day to support your favorite ministry or organization.

It is always the focus of our lives to give of ourselves; our resources, our time and our gifts each and every day of the year. This often comes with great sacrifice but we know that Jesus sacrificed His all for us so we are merely following His example of what love looks like.

One of our favorite verses on giving comes from Luke 6:38-40,

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

This is a promise that we have seen fulfilled in our lives continually. We have never been able to out-give God…all that we have ever given has come back upon us in a greater measure.

That is why we love #GIVINGTUESDAY! We know that every person who gives will receive back according to the measure that they give. This is true for you today as well. We love that what our ministry receives will come back on those who give with abundant and multiplied blessings. God keeps His Word!

If you would like to give your yearly #GIVINGTUESDAY gift to our ministry you can donate through our ministry website at http://www.inscribeministries.com/

Or, you can send a check (or money order if you live outside of the US) directly to us at:

Jeffrey & Kathi Pelton

It is an honor and blessing for us to spend our lives giving to you and to those that the Lord has put in our path. We pray that you are greatly strengthened and encouraged by our articles, books and devotionals.

We want to send out our book, “The Sounds of Christmas” and “The Yielding: A Lifestyle of Surrender” as a thank you for every gift of $500 or more we receive on #GIVINGTUESDAY. God Is Shaking Off Your Despair…It’s Time To Rejoice!

Kathi Pelton

Yesterday my dear friend, Deborah Trujillo, did a fantastic job bringing the word of the Lord to our church here in Portland, Oregon. Her theme was “Faithfulness & Thanksgiving”. During her message she read the well-known verse from Philippians 4:6,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

As she read this verse I went into a vision where I saw men and women arising from a sunken state of deep despair and anxiety. The spirit of truth suddenly came upon them causing them to realize that the despair and anxiety was a spirit sent against them that they had in their vulnerable state come into agreement with; causing them to lose hope. As they stood up, the power of the Lord came upon them and they began to shake and shake almost violently. The shaking was breaking the dark shroud that had cloaked them and brought despair upon them. It was crumbling like a rock wall, leaving the stones at their feet. Then suddenly they began to break into praise and thanksgiving to God. As the words of thanksgiving came forth their shaking turned into dancing; a completely abandoned dance before the Lord.

Then I saw the stones that were now crumbled at their feet and each one represented a request or need that they had carried. But rather than carrying their requests before the Lord with thanksgiving, anxiety had taken the place of prayers, petitions intermingled with thanksgiving causing each need to be cemented together by anxiety. This caused their needs to wall them in and shroud their lives with needs, lack and anxiety…which lead them to despair and hopelessness.

If this is you, I right now prophesy over you that the Spirit of the Lord is coming upon you and you will arise in His power and shake off the fortified wall of despair and hopelessness! His power will crumble the anxiety that caused your requests to become a fortress of never-ending needs and darkness. You will arise and shake off the darkness and despair. You will begin to shout out praise and thanksgiving which will cause you to dance with abandonment and rejoicing. You will dance upon the stones (needs) that lay at your feet. As Jesus is exalted higher than the needs before you they will begin to turn into answers and desires fulfilled. You will bring your needs before the Lord with prayers and petitions that are from a heart of thanksgiving. You will enter into new doors, new gates and new beginnings as you enter in with thanksgiving in your heart.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.” Psalm 100:4

The anxiety that has plagued your days and consumed your nights will be turned into a peace that surpasses your understanding. Philippians 4:6 goes from an instruction (of what to do with your needs and requests) to verse 7 where we see the result of following His instruction,

“…And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

Thanksgiving will break every chain of anxiety and crumble the walls of despair! Today is the day to arise and with thanksgiving and make your requests known to Him; for He is faithful!!
