Oceans in the Desert

We all have a soul and a spirit. Our souls can either be under the control of the flesh or of the spirit. It is the will of a man that decides what controls the soul. God does not violate our will. He loves us so completely that He allows us the free will to choose who we will serve and how we will live.

Today, I heard His Spirit say to me,

“Kathi, tell My people to ‘Mind the gap.’”

When I ask Him what He meant by this I immediately saw a picture that had the word “soul” on one side and “spirit” on the other with a gap in between the two. Then the Holy Spirit said to me that the gap represents the will of every man and woman.

The past couple of years have been years of transition and alignments that have invited God’s people to yield their will to the ways and commands of God and to train their souls to be submitted fully to the His Spirit. It is a time of great purification and a call to holiness.

We must understand the times and seasons that we are living in and transitioning into. They are great times of victories and fruitfulness but they are also times that we will face giants and battles that require those victories to be won through yielding fully to God by submitting our souls to respond and obey the will of God.

One of the greatest battles that many are facing in this hour are concerning our souls and who (or what) is controlling our thoughts and emotions. God is training His people to yield to His will even while they find themselves in the grip of emotions and thoughts that scream for their way rather than God’s way.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

This process is making a way to break through old and familiar ways that are not aligned with His ways. The “familiar” patterns that do not align with God’s often cost us victories and bring us into warfare and battles that God did not intend us to face. It is the mercy of the Lord that He has “turned up the heat” of the Refiner’s fire in order to purify us and save us from pain and losses in the days ahead. There are too many defeats that have been faced in past seasons because the souls of man have not be submitted to the ways of God.

We must MIND THE GAP! Our will is to be submitted to His will and His ways. The enemy comes to agitate, aggravate and cause offense in order to bring forth (provoke) a reaction from the soul rather than a response to His Spirit. The devil prowls in dark places seeking to strengthen his control over your soul (thoughts and emotions) so that he can assure your future defeats. The soul submitted to the will and ways of the Lord will dispossess the enemy’s strongholds as they listen and obey Him even when the instructions don’t make sense to the human mind. God is assuring victories ahead as we yield to the refinement.

We are in what I would term as “pre-battles”. These are the lions and bears that we must face and defeat before we face the giants in the land ahead. We have crossed over into the Promise Land and the giants aren’t far off now. We do not have to be afraid if we will take heed now and learn to “mind the gap” of our wills in order to embrace His ways.

As you go through each day be sure to pay close attention to those moments that your soul is being stirred to “react” (in fear, frustration, despair or offense). It is in those moments that a lion or bear is before you and you will need to yield your will and respond out of your spirit to gain the victory. Breathe deep and call upon His Spirit to help you!

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

Call upon His peace to guard your heart and mind (to still your storm tossed thoughts and emotions). Then by an act of your will bring your soul into submission to the control of the Spirit. Then you will receive your victory and learn the ways of peace, which are His ways. We will be “giant-slayers” and bring fear to the enemy’s army as we allow this great work to take place in our lives.
