We are living in times that could “knock the wind” out of the strongest and most resilient men and women. Looking at the world around us truly is like reading a bad report. There are constant natural disasters (fires, floods, famine), there are acts of terrorism that are unthinkable and acceptance of the most horrific crimes against humanity such a “full term abortions” that are unashamedly called “a woman’s right!” and Christian’s are being persecuted around the world.
As believers we could easily look at the world around us and want to concede defeat. But we do not take our cues or perspective from the world around us but rather from the One who rules and reigns over all.
We must look beyond the natural realm to see, hear and then speak (declare/prophesy) what the Holy Spirit is saying. This is where you will find encouragement for your heart, rest for your soul and the hope that carries you into victory after victory; breakthrough after breakthrough.
When the children of Israel passed into the Promise Land they knew that the natural report was that “taking the land would be impossible!” Well, that very scenario, to the believer, should be your greatest hope! Why? Because that is where we see God show up the most frequently! He is the God of the impossible (not improbable). But He waits for a people who will partner with Him to receive the instructions (that more often than not look completely foolish to the world) that will bring forth the victory.
Over and over during this first month of the new decade I have heard in my spirit the words from Zechariah 4:6, “Not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord.” The good report aligns us with the work of His Spirit to accomplish the impossible while partnering with His people to be the conduits of foolish obedience that ushers in impossible results.
When God’s people came upon the fortified city of Jericho; it’s walls, guards and strength spoke a very bad report! If they were to have stopped and merely looked with their eyes at what was being faced; they would have conceded defeat before even starting. But God had a good report that involved acts of faith and obedience that “in the natural” (apart from “by His Spirit”) would merely result in making them look very foolish and becoming a mockery to their enemies.
To be “strangers in a new land” and show up to your first battle by walking around the city seven times and then release a shout must have looked like absolute foolishness. I’d imagine that the guards and rulers of Jericho must have looked on and thought, “Really, that’s all you’ve got?!” No weapons, battering rams, armored warriors…just men, women and children walking in circles?
But they were waking in Zechariah 4:6! They were obediently making room for “by my Spirit” to accomplish the impossible! There was no act of might, no human power being displayed but merely a people who saw beyond the natural realm and listened to the voice of their God and became surrendered vessels to make room for a “by my Spirit” victory to occur.
After the seventh lap around Jericho the people used their voices to release the sound of victory and just as the Lord promised, “Jericho’s fortified walls came tumbling down!” This struck fear into the hearts of their enemies throughout the land. The voice of faith became louder than the voice of mockery. It was the sound of a people who believed that “by my Spirit” the impossible can happen!
Too many Christians have been receiving the bad report about their personal lives, their cities and their nations by “reading the circumstances!” If the impossible is standing before you then it’s time to get excited because that is where God most often will bring a “by my Spirit” miracle! But he does look for a people who trust Him enough to believe His good report and will act on it! He is calling a Joshua and Caleb army to arise and take the land!
When my family arrived in the Washington DC region two weeks ago to live (at the Lord’s request) it was an impossible situation from the very start! We didn’t have the money, the means, the “invitation” or even the physical strength for a 3000 mile move. Everywhere we looked we saw “impossible” barriers. But as we saw the impossible, heard the good report and began to surrender step by step to His instructions. And what happened far exceeded our wildest expectations!
Now we have arrived (we are living in Northern Virginia)! But we arrived to a state that just elected a governor who is so extremely liberal that he condones taking the life of a baby if it survives a late term abortion! We have arrived in this region during an impeachment trial, during a time where our president is hated with vile hatred by the media and by the most vocal Americans, and during a time where our nation seems more divided then since the time of the Civil War. But guess what? We have heard the good report! We have heard a good report that in the midst of division we will see a John 17:21-23 unity miracle occur. We may be strangers in the land who have just crossed over in the midst of many giants (we may look like grasshoppers in comparison) and fortified walls but we have a “by my Spirit” promise!
We are not coming with might or power but with yielded and surrendered lives so that we can hear the good report, receive the instructions (even if they seem and look foolish!) and join with like-minded people who will be those conduits of surrender that make way for a “by my Spirit” miracle!
Are there fortified “impossibilities” that you are personally facing? If so, now is not the time to lose hope or give up! It is not the time to allow the anxiety of pending defeat to rob you of your faith! Now is the time to hear the good report and prophesy it over your impossible circumstance! Declare Zechariah 4:6 over your situation and then hear and obey even the most foolish thing. But be sure to let your voice be louder than the voice of opposition! Let a victory shout rise up so that you are raised up out of a posture of defeat (the tomb of dread). Stop seeing the impossible as your death sentence or sure defeat! It is your invitation into victory and breakthrough.
There is a supernatural rest in this posture because it doesn’t require your might, power or strength…it merely requires your faith! Will you dare to believe the good report or will you live according to what the impossible dictates? Will you remain in Egypt (under a master that enclaves you to hard labor) or will you move into the Promise Land of your inheritance and believe that as you hear and obey that “by His Spirit” the breakthrough and victory will come?
Let the spirit of Joshua and Caleb come upon you and arise in faith! Put on the shield of faith and go take the land of your inheritance! Take back rest for your soul, take back the land of promise, take back the peace that surpasses understanding, take back your hope, joy and victory! Take the good report and watch the walls that stand between you and your promise fall. Now is the time for breakthrough after breakthrough!
