Stay In The Moment

Kathi Pelton

There were so many things that I have learned throughout the past years as the Lord continually goes deeper and aligns my life with the plumb line of heaven. One of the most amazing things has been a simple and foundational truth that was somehow not being lived out in my daily journey to the full degree that the Lord desired.

That truth comes in this simple phrase,

“Stay in the moment!”

The Bible speaks of this in many different ways,

““So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew‬ ‭6:34‬

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬

“Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Luke‬ ‭12:22-28‬ ‭

In the “seen” or natural world I could easily find so much to worry about; and for many years I did just that! What a waste of time and joy. The enemy, who is a thief, takes great pleasure in casting shadows upon God’s people in hopes that they will abandon His peace and promises and take up the heavy yoke of worry. Whether it be finances, jobs, health or relationships, he comes to attack the natural areas seeking to disrupt the spiritual areas. If we begin to focus on the problems we will lose faith and let go of the peace and grace that today offers through faith.

I personally had a number of things throughout 2018 that could have easily stolen my peace (which is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given me!). Each time the enemy would come to “cast a dark shadow” on a natural circumstance I’d hear the Lord whisper to me,

“Kathi, stay in the moment; remain in Me.”

As I allowed the Spirit of the Lord to reign my thoughts and heart back into the moment, His peace would flood me and guard my heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). If I ever allowed my mind to wander into the shadows I would immediate loose my peace and meet a spirit called “dread”. Dread holds hands with fear and the result for those caught in their trap is panic and anxiety.

God has called us to stay in the moment, stay in the day and stay in His peace. This is how we remain in Him. In that place you will hear His whisper of instruction and you will apprehend faith through prayer and praise. Peace will flood you once again.

There was a particular situation that I was facing in the latter months of 2018 that “in the natural” could have caused great anxiety and worry. Each time the enemy would extend his hand to offer me worry and to cause my mind to wander down his dark path, I’d once again hear the Lord speak, “Trust me daughter and stay in the moment.”

When the situation that I was facing finally materialize, there was almost immediately provision for every need that stood before me. Had I allowed my heart to worry about tomorrow it would have wasted two months of my life. Instead of allowing dread and fear to rule my soul, I allowed my faith to be joined with His peace and promises which did not fail me!

We can make our needs known to Him through pray but then we must enter into the thanksgiving that He has heard us and will answer us. Dread and fear are a killer of faith and peace and where there is no peace there is no joy.

I encourage you to make 2019 a year that you train your soul to “stay in the moment!” Remain in peace, in rest and in the confident assurance of His provision for tomorrow. Remain in Him! Put worry under your feet and let His peace guard your heart and mind.

He is forever faithful!
